Hi Folks,

This might not be of interest to most, but we're using version 7.0.2 and we can't update or change any of our Portals without getting this error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting '(' in /www/jpfolks.com/web/forum/cache_builders/custom/portal_box_4.php on line 8

I am not sure what the trouble is. At first I thought it was an error in a new Quote box we wanted to launch.. but it's clear something is broken across the board. Any suggestions? We first got this message when we tried to create the Portal for random quotes, and now it shows up on any changes we want to make in the control panel.

I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. But I am not sure where else to post it? Please move it if needed.

it's portal 4 and that will look like it's killing the entire board, since you prolly have the column that it is in ON by default.

you have a syntax error in that code..

for short term.. find custom portal 4 and turn it off..

that allows the board to run...

then debug your custom code

I tried simply turning it off.. that didn't work. So I deleted all the text from portal 4 and it at least stopped giving me the error message. Didn't cause the header to reappear or the Calendar box to start working right (it was all scrambled.. but it's acted up before on its own). I turned off the Calendar too.

I supposed we're not meant to have a random quote box. = ) Thanks for the suggestion!

well, a random quote box ain't too hard to do.. if you really want one, ask @ UBBDev.. someone might slap one together for you

i've already done something similar with the shoutbox.. i created a shoutbox bot named 'Ricky Poo' (not after Rick Baker, but Rick Ashley -- long story short -- google Rick Rolled )

anyway, I gave Ricky Poo a slight case of tourettes syndrome and he has various triggers as to when he decides to shout.. keeps the shoutbox lively

reason i mention it, is that he does the same idea of pulling a random quote and random person (optional) to direct his response too.. he even has a random smiley .. so far, he's fooled about 10 people who think he's real for a time..

i even got some requests to ban the poor bashtid
