I moved my website to a new server and temporarily left UBBThreads 6.5.5 behind. Now I would like to move it over and start using it again (maybe with an upgrade). Anyhoo, I will pay UBB Threads to the transfer/reinstall becasue it is much cheaper for me in the long run.

My new website requires a login to enter the site so I was hoping to place a link on the webpage only allowing logged members of my website to access UBBThreads. If I do this would I be able to turn off required login to UBBThreads and still be safe from spammers? In essence, hiding it from spammers.

I am mainly doing this to prevent my members from having to login twice to post

Thanks

Burk

Removing the password for login to the threads obviously removes a layer of security, but yes, if you hide the forums behind a HTTP password then you're "protected" from spammers to a degree. You're also locking out legitimate search engine spiders, though that may not be of interest?

EDIT: And of course - how will you know who's made a post if they're not logged in?!

Good points. I have decided to just upload the forum to a location "behind" my website and anyone who wished to use the forum will have to log into that seperately. It isn't going to be as big of a deal as I thought because I probably need to keep my website login seperate becasue that is related to paid memberships.

Thanks for the advice

The only fees I've ever heard of with the UBB is paid support... Who told you that?
