Is it trivial to run a single forum on multiple web servers backed by a single database? I assume so, but didn't see anything specifically addressing this case. Does this require any different installation process, or do we just install the forum on each server independently (configured to point to the same DB)

thanks

Running on multiple webservers is a bit tricky. We read and write to the local filesystem for some things such as gallery pics, file attachments, etc. I believe there are a couple sites that do it, but they have some type of sync program running to keep those files and directories synced up on the webservers.

Eventually we plan on having an option to store everything in the database so this isn't an issue.

I used to do it. One server had the directories that threads need to write to exported and the other server mounted that file system using nfs. The database was on a third machine. I didn't have a problem. Now, the caveat to this is that this was a 6 series where there was no cache to worry about, but I don't see where 7 does anything that you could not do the same thing.

An interesting project indeed. Have not had the need or opportunity and resources to do such an endeavor but sites like Wikipedia do run multiple boxes.

Would be great to actually at least work on getting something like that going.
