Hi,

Our members complain that they have problem staying login.
They have to relogin when posting which is pain.

I thought this problem would be solved by migrating from classic 6.7.3 to threads 7.3.1.

How come this can happen? It happens to me also very ofthen on
http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm
but not on this forum.

This appears to be a cookie problem, I have it with only certain user but others users have no problem. The users may have to make a cookie exception in their browser to accept all cookies for that domain name.

Likely the user is going to your site as (and logging in to)
http://yoursite.tld

Once they login, they're redirected to your "full url" you set in your CP; which forces them to have to login again, as the "full url" (http://www.yoursite.tld) is seen as a different domain than http://yoursite.tld and thus the cookie is invalid...

That sounds plausable. Would the HTTP Referer Check have any bearing on this?

No, that simply checks the allowed referrers for making posts or pm's... basically, form submissions. It has no effect on the login process or cross domain cookie issues; which is more a security issue with the webserver than anything else...

Fix would be to force users to either use www or no www via a .htaccess referrer trick (I think I posted one in the faq forum)

Ok, Blimey i'm not sure I have an .htaccess file
but if I need to have one I'll create it like below.
in which directory should I place it?
URL: http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php
Path: xxxx/html/forums/ubbthreads.php

I also use this url which contains frames so I can use logo and menues.
http://www.britbike.com/forum/index.html
one of the frames calls for http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

# Allow Re-Writing
RewriteEngine on

# Redirect non-www URLs to WWW
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^britbike.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.britbike.com/$1 [QSA,L,R=301]

Gizmo I did put the .htaccess file in the root however still have staying login issue
I have now arrived home after a trip, today firefox updated to 3.03 a swedish version and I must say it still keeps throwing me out.

not on this forum but my own.
http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

I need to say I use also IE Version 7.0.5730.13.

Visitors complain saying I login 5 times in 5 minutes...

I also expire my cookies sometimes when it to bad and are only using one browser for a while to check.

does it help to put .htaccess files in the forums folder?? and if so with what content???

just being in the dark with this issue
