As I recall, cant find it as the search function is BROKE again, that Rick said that his beta testing staff has dropped off recently and these latest releases have not been tested as much as the previous versions.
you sir, are correctamundo.. matter of fact there are 'beta testers' who really don't test at all and it's been that way for quite awhile..

Well, in my case it would be more to do with checking over the template files/css styles than actually beta testing on a range of hardware, as I believe version 8 will move away from table based layouts to more modern display methods. But anyways, the offer is there.
Keen to get some jQuery loveliness bolted onto ubbthreads too and lose those pesky popup windows in favour of lightboxes, for example.

I beta test each release; have been busy with the divorce lately so i haven't posted much at either forum to signify that though... Plus I keep the tots in line here hehe...
You could use a differencing tool to confirm and update only changes but that might be just as time consuming as running the update. Also from time to time there are DB structure changes that just replacing new files would not make that change and the average user wouldn't know how to make the change or might accidentally do it wrong and break their site.
Even doing the file change difference can be done wrong if you're not careful. So even though there may be some users that can handle it there are probably many more that can not and it might open a can of worms for support trying to maintain different packages.

Well suppose one has to clarify that as I certainly don't recall any documentation requiring any specific feedback, code check, input, etc when Rick has added testers. Yourself and a couple others really go the extra mile and do a LOT compared to most of the rest of us though and I'll give you that in spades, but to say that others don't test at all is possibly a bit inaccurate, but then again that's my own perception and I could be wrong.
I've tested many things myself but I know I don't always provide frequent feedback, so if Rick wants or requires a more structured tester then I think that should be clarified.

Once 8.0 is getting close to an actual private beta then we'll probably look at the current group of beta testers, clarify what we need and maybe add a couple new ones if needed. We'll definitely need active testers that have some time since there will be a lot of testing to do.
