I have put my site into a container to keep it viewable for 1024 wide screens.

When I click on 'Active Topics' or 'search' the dropdowns are far to the right and certainly not beneath the tabs at the top.

I have even tried setting the width within threads to the same as the container without joy.

Any suggestions as to how I can correct this.

I am using Firefox 3.0.10 and I see the problem on active topics.
I don't know how to fix it but also I don't know why you changed it.
I use 1024 on my dell which is a 19 inch wide screen and never had a issue with stock code such as here.

Why should we have to be at 100% - it should work at any size.

Well this may kinda be a broke item.
I just tried in the CP>>General-General Options:
Table Width: (all screens)
Without any type of container. Just changing the setting.
If you set it to say less than 55% the same problem appears. But also the rest of the items start to look bad also.
Anything above 55% seem okay.

Again I don't see why you changed the display to accommodate 1024 in the first place. Can you expand on what the original problem was ,because I have not seen any issues at 1024. So maybe some of my users have a problem I am not aware of.

Because it looks neater for starters on additonal pages.

We are now running at 1024 - but these drop downs appear outside of the 1024 area, when viewing on a larger screen.

Part of the way we do the popups right now is it traverses the elements to figure out position, so it does require somewhat valid HTML for that to work. Doing a quick source check I see a couple issues with missing tags, which could be contributing.

For a test, I specified both a 50% screen width and also a 1024 width in the stock code, and the menu's popped up ok and in the proper position. This was tested with a 1650 width resoltuion on my monitor, and maximizing the browser window. Changed the sizes a few times as well to check if it broke under different widths.

What you might want to do is have a test forum setup, try it stock with the specified width and make sure that shows ok, then slowly add in your headers/footers and see what's breaking it.

Have checked my header code and we are fine until after the pop-down boxes.

As soon as I out in a container to restrict the width the pop-put menus are wrongly positioned if the screen is larger than the container.

I have even removed some of my mods so that the top section is default (apart from my header, which is compliant)

if the viewing screen is similar to the container then the boxes pop-up correctly.
