Can I increase the width (# of columns) in post/reply textboxes?

I thought this could be done here: CP > Display Options > Post/Reply Page Options > Default Textarea Columns: but increasing the number there only increased the width of the "Quick Reply" textbox.

Is there another place where this can be done? or am I not doing something else correctly?

Hey Pilgrim smile

It sounds like the post/reply screens don't recognize that setting. You can make specific width changes in the newpost/newreply templates around this area:

<tr>
<td class="alt-2" valign="top">
<label for="texteditor">{$lang.POST_TEXT}</label>
</td>
<td class="alt-1" valign="top">
{$text_editor}
</td>
</tr>

I realize that this is a very late reply to an old thread started back in May... BUT

The reason for asking is that with IE8 when you fill the textbox in the "Full Reply Screen" textbox the contents of the textbox begins to jump up and down making it near impossible to continue typing. Yes, it is possible to click on the "enlarge" arrow in the upper right-hand corner to increase the height of the textbox but this has to be done for every 2 or 3 lines of additional text. This was not a problem with IE7 as I remember so it is probably something to do with IE8 that prevents auto scrolling. This is not a problem in the "Quick Reply" textbox.

Is there a temporary fix for this anywhere?
Is this an acknowledged problem by others using 7.5.1? by Rick?
If so, will this be addressed in version 8?

I don't know if this will fix your problem but there was a reported issue with IE8 compatibility.
The current version 7.5.3 has a meta tag embedded already.
But you can add it yourself in older versions.
HERE is a post on what to do.

Thanks Ruben,

I had read that thread not long ago but didn't think it was relevant to my problem/complaint. But I went ahead and implemented what Rick wrote:

Quote:
Move this line:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

Right above this line:

{$headerinsert}

It had me stymied for a bit since I simply could not find that meta tag line to MOVE... so I just added it in at the designated place and it appears to have resolved the textbox problem.

Thanks! smile
