I called up the site's owner in the country that he was in. We had a nice conversation. Afterwards he read my email in which i proposed an update.

Not only was he willing to consider an update but he was very willing to pay for it in full.

I never would have made such a proposal without the advice of Gizmo, Ruben, Allen, Rick, Jaisp and the rest of you on here. (forgive me because i'm forgetting names)

(i'm sure that you'll see more of me. i might have another question or two. smile )

EDIT: maybe another question or two, or three, or thirty three, thirty four, etc.....

That is great news. I'm sure you will like most all of the new features in the updated software.

UPDATE:

The site's owner is a somewhat elderly gentleman who admitted to being less adept to new computer technology.

Having said that he attempted to load the threads test file/script on to the server but failed. He'll now seek tech assistance (i believe from the people who provide his host server). But informed me that his tech person was on holiday. (I have absolutely no reason to doubt this gentleman's honesty and sincerity.)

I would not be pestering this gentleman if i wasn't confident of having the best interest of his forum in mind.

Thanks again.

Okay great, progress.
Don't know why it failed.
Upload "ubbthreads_test.php" to top directory.
http://www.mysite.com meaning public_html if on linux
Just make sure it is uploaded as ascii not binary.
Then in your browser type http://www.mysite.com/ubbthreads_test.php
You could place it anywhere but I would suggest not in the cgi-bin directory.
You could suggest you will do it for him and forward the link to him when done.
