I would like to create new languages files for my forum. Can I just copy the english files, name them something else (Spanish, upload to server ..../ubbthreads/languages, set permission on each file to 777 and edit them using the language editor supplied in threads? Will threads automaticly detect the new language file?

If Im on the wrong track could someone push me in the right direction.

Thanks for your help.

Yep, you pretty much got it. Directories you can make 777, files within can be 666. When you go into the language editor, the main screen will detect it, just don't click the active button until you're ready for your users to be able to choose that language.

Yes, though permissions you should only really need 666.

Hello Rick and Gizmo. My name is Jay and thank you for the help.

When in the language editor is there any thing I should not interpet ie: SPOILER_CONTENT(key) or wrapper.php?
What do I do with strings like this Views: %%VIEWS%% Replies: %%REPLIES%%? Interpet both Views: and %%VIEWS%%, etc. or is it only necessary to interpet Views:?

I am also unclear on this statment
You can add new language strings below. Each new string must have a unique new name.
I was just going to edit the current strings but not the keys thinking the end effect would be translation of the page.

My forum is for the spanish speaking community so I must complete this task before going live. Obviously I have some work to do and am eager to learn.

Thanks
Jay

Anytime you run into text that is surrounded by double percent signs, like %%VIEWS%%, means it is going to be replaced. For an example:

Views: %%VIEWS%%

Will end up looking something like below:

So, in that case you'll just want to translate "Views"

On the second part of your question, you just want to edit the strings themselves and leave the keys as they are. The statement you referred to is only for adding new custom strings for your site.
