a few of my members keep complaining of getting logged out for no reason. I am running version 7.5.1

I dont have this problem, but they do, any suggestions?

I am really hoping someone has some input on this?

I just had that problem here trying to reply to this thread. I too am getting complaints about members not being able to stay logged in.

I notice this is an issue for myself when I switch between an ID with admin privileges and a typical member ID but figured it was just related to logging out and back in again right away.

We have multiple domains pointing to the same site, I don't think that is an issue but...some members use www.bhweb.com and others use www.barnegatfishinhole.com

Joe, there is one link at the bottom of your site that goes to barnegatfishinhole.com. If a user were on bhweb.com or www.barnegatfishinhole.com they would be logged out and wouldn't realize that they had gone to a new domain.

I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the problem you are having or not.

I am having the same problem with a couple of my members, my site is in my sig, any ideas?

I have a shared computer so I can’t stay logged in continuously, and often have to log in when I visit. I am having a bit of trouble with the log in, I log in, then go to a forum and then the site logs me out.

So if I log in and refresh the page, I am then logged out. This is becoming very frustrating, as if I want to join in I sometimes have to log in several times in one session, and then it puts me back to the main forum page and I have to find the thread I was reading all over again (and again etc).

Any particular browser they are using so we can do a test with the same? I'm seeing quite a few reports on IE8 issues like this, not just for this forum, but for a variety of sites that use cookies for login sessions. Seems to affect some but not others.

Finally got the info from her, she is using IE8, seems like its an issue with that version?

For some people it is yes, and some people it's not. People have trouble on everything from banking sites, to their own blogs, and others have no issues at all.

I've been talking with a few others and trying to find the common cause.

I see you are on a older version without the IE8 fix Rick has added in a newer release starting with I think 7.5.3.
You can add it to your version to see if it will work better.

She is still getting logged off! Any other ideas? I definitely put the code in the correct field.

I am having the same issue and didn't have it until the upgrade to 7.5.5 I am using Firefox and get logged out after a few posts. I have the settings to keep me logged in but it doesn't matter at all. Very frustrating especially when you are doing mass posts in a matter of minutes.

I see on your forum that you have an advertising script on board; do you know if any of your non-ubb scripts on your sites use cookies for tracking?

I'm suspicious that you're running into too many cookies being created and your ubb login cookie is getting purged

I have no idea, but even if that's the case, why happen after the upgrade and not before?

How can I tell if I do or not and if so how can I fix the issue?

hrm... i see small cookie footprint, but i adblock a lotta stuff too..

I have tried other browsers and had the same issue so it's not limited to Firefox. I had the issue with Chrome and IE. I even uninstalled FF and reinstalled to see if it was the browser.

Your definitely running into the cookie limit. Cookie specifications allow for 20 cookies to be set for a specific domain. While visiting your site and browsing around, I ended up with over 20 cookies, so what happens then is the browser will delete the oldest cookies, to keep it within that 20 cookie limit. Eventually it deletes the cookie that holds your login information and logs you out.

Your cgi-bin/webadverts seems to be the culprit, that's where the majority of cookies are coming from. What you could do is maybe make a subdomain and call that from the subdomain instead of www, so it doesn't interfere with the forum cookies.

Please let me know how many cookies you get from the forum now?

Looks like you have your cookies split out into subdomains now, so looks like the forum cookies aren't getting trampled on anymore.

I had a subdomain created for webadverts solely. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. I take it I did the right thing here.
