When I browsed MediaWiki (I was thinking of installing that myself)

It says on top there:

Warning: Don't edit this file with Notepad or other text editor that adds byte order marks to files, or you will break your UBB.Wiki.




I looked into it. You can't edit the MediaWiki php files with regular Notepad because it adds BOM to the file.

So is this a problem when working with all php files?



I found that you can use Notepad++ instead

After you install Notepad++

Encoding > Encode in UTF-8 without BOM



(I think that is ok. I am not 100% sure. This stuff is very confusing to me)


What do you guys use ?

Never had a problem with windows notepad.
But windows wordpad will hose it up with extra formatting.

Man this is some weird stuff

It would take me years to learn php from scratch

I use notepad++, i love it, I use it as my default html editor and everything these days

I used to use notetab great software but it is not free anymore.
You have to purchase the pro version to get all the bells and whistles it used to have in the free version. Still it is cheap at 29 bucks.
I wish I did not loose the old free version.

i'm an ultraedit guy.. integrates with ultracompare too..

Same here. Been playing with UEx(ultraEdit) for linux but using gedit to for now.

I like EditPlus myself
