I searched a bit and read some threads but can't seem to get to a clear answer.

We have a web site and an active UBB forum within the site. At the moment all our non-forum content is open to the public. The forums require login and password for access.

I want to add content to the web site that will also require login and password. Is there a way to use/call the forum database and/or login screens to handle security? I don't want to maintain two routines and credential databases. I don't want our users to have to maintain two sets of credentials.

it is possible, but a modification really.

is your 'non-forum content' served up via server side scripting (like php) ?

if so, then you are closer to being able to do it.

otherwise, if you have plain ole' html files, then you'd need to possibly use .htaccess (updated from ubbthreads) to allow viewing etc..

it depends, but is doable as a modification smile

Wouldn't be too difficult with htauth really, since you can set it up to feed from a mysql database...

This actually isn't very hard.

If you look on threadsdev there is a user authentication class that works really well, you just need to know how to use PHP.

Thanks guys

A point in the right direction really helps.

I was thinking of leaving the plain html pages as "public" and converting the pages requiring authorization to php.

Time for some learnin'

i think it is actually a good thing to have *some* public nature to a 'private' board anyway..

gotta get them 'hooked on the heroin' somehow laugh
