i tried an upgrade from vs 7.4.1 to 7.5.5. it works ok, but sometimes the following error emerges:

Code:
Script: /var/www/vhosts/jakchat.com/httpdocs/forums/libs/mailer.inc.php
Line#: 60
SQL Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3
SQL Error #: 1064
Query: SELECT STYLE_IMG, STYLE_VARS FROM ubbt_STYLES WHERE STYLE_ID =

it happens in a few sections of the program, and is inconsistent in nature.

I'd check and make sure you don't have any empty styles, possibly even a forum assigned a specific style that might no longer exist?

it seems to be related to the styles and css.

i deleted all the unrequired styles till there was only one left. i then check all forums to ensure that they all used the default style.

now the situation is even worse: the style previews fine in the control panel, but the real page does not seem to load the css information, and page elements are scattered all over the place.

I had a similar problem during an upgrade once. I had overwritten the file folder and decided to put them in manually later.... Had the same result that you are describing. I fixed it by going into the edit styles page, checking the style (that showed up correctly there) and just saved "changes" (I didn't actually make any). It resolved itself from there.

thanks dunny (rather an australian-sounding nick there).

i had actually already tried that. but i decided just now to try again, and i noticed that there was no "default" chosen in the styles control panel. all the radio buttons were empty. so i chose one as default, saved, and that seems to have fixed the problem.
