I had updated to V7.5.6 and all was well but the web host screwed something up this PM related to PHP so I went to re install V7.5.6
and when running the install/upgrade.php it errors out with this ?

Warning: require_once(../includes/config.inc.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home1/teamzron/public_html/ubb756/install/upgrade.php on line 60

Why is this now failing when it did not last time and how to correct ?

Issue is now when replying to a thread and when clicking to submit I just get back a totally blank screen page so something like a write is screwed up so I thought maybe a reinstall of V7.5.6 would fix any issues

I can write a new post with no problem, thus reply is broken

Thanks

Did you upload all files/directories when doing the reinstall? Make sure you have the includes directory uploaded as well.

I am going by the upgrade document on your website that says to not copy the includes , styles, and cache_builders/custom directories. Is that wrong ?

# Download the latest version of UBB™ from the Member Area.

# Extract the upgrade files, using a program like WinZip to unzip the distribution zip.

# Use your UBB™ control panel to turn your board off.

# Connect to your server using your FTP client. Navigate the client to your current UBB™ installation directory.

# Upload all files and directories from the unzipped UBB™ directory to the UBB™ installation directory, except for the includes, styles, and cache_builders/custom directories. You will want to upload all of the .php files within the cache_builders directory, just make sure not to upload the custom directory or files within it.

# Verify that permissions on any newly uploaded files are correct for your server platform. Please review the full installation instructions for a reminder on necessary permissions.

# Bring up the "install/upgrade.php" script with your web browser. If the normal URL to your UBB™ installation is:

http://www.example.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php

then you will find install/upgrade.php at:

http://www.example.com/ubbthreads/install/upgrade.php

I added the includes directory and now upgrade.php fails with

QL Error: Database error only visible to forum administratorsSQL Error: Database error only visible to forum administrators
Fatal error: Call to undefined function upgrade_header() in /home1/teamzron/public_html/ubb756/install/upgrade.php on line 67

well that'd be because you overwrote your configuration file... The upgrade steps are to take the default archive from the member area, delete the includes, cache_builders/custom, and styles directories and then upload the files.

The reasons for this is that the includes file holds configuration data, the cache_builders/custom directory holds your side boxes, and the styles directory holds your style data; all of which will break something or another.

Gizmo thanks for the reply

I do not follow you, are you saying the install directory has those 3 folders but the running directory has to have those 3 deleted before using upgrade.php ?
The doc says the upgrade folders in install directory to delete those 3 folders first and then do the upgrade.php which is upgrading to the running UBBthreads directory

Not sure what you mean as to "members area" ?

So how do I fix this ?

Again upgrade fails ( running version is 7.5.6) doing a upgrade again to see if the problem that exists that cannot reply to any post as the submit function causes blank screen and reply is not posting.

Thanks

My apologies, when you said you were just going to reinstall 7.5.6, I thought maybe you were doing an actually full new install just to test with.

What you probably want to do at this point is just get it back to the original issue where the reply ended up with a blank screen. At that point, open up a support ticket with admin info to the forums and ftp info to the server and we'll take a look at what's going on.

Thanks for those who replied and if others have the same problem where users cannot publish reply content to existing posts

In working with Rick it was found the V7.5.6 I downloaded had some problem file(s) and had to download a newer V7.5.6 and then copy/overwrite the scripts and templates folders from that in desktop to the running ubbthreads directory on network server

Well looking at your other posts it looks like your host hosed you with some file permission issues as well as corrupted files.
