Looking for help, please. I've updated this software multiple times and have a vague memory of there being a tiny problem from the fact that the software wants the Admin to be User 2, and our User 2 is not an Admin, but now it seems to be rearing its head again, and changing the member number in the config file manually for the Admin didn't do the trick...

Maybe I'm wrong about that being the issue that gave me database errors and made me have to repair the user table once I restored the older version, but it's my best deduction of the issue.

I tried to update last night from 7.3.1 to 7.5.6. I did not overwrite any files I shouldn't have. My config file from the existing installation was in place, specifying the correct user number as Admin. I tried three times and The installation script passed everything up through Step 6. I tried running Step 7 (setting the Admin) the first time and skipping Step 7 the other two times, always of course going on to run Step 8, changing the tables.

Regardless, it seemed I always ended up with a config file that specified User 2 as Admin and with only the error page alerting to database errors at the URL where the forums should be. I changed the Admin user number manually in the config file and still got database errors. I copied the errors to a text file and forgot to save the text file. Sorry!

I deleted the installation and went back to 7.3.1. I successfully resisted the urge to throw chairs. Before I try this again, is there something I need to know?

Thanks!

Humm, Are you running install.php or upgrade.php.
I think maybe you need to go into the control panel and specify what the correct prime admin is.
CP>Primary settings>Main Administrator User Id?
Then select submit.
I seem to recall that it writes to the tables which admin you are.

Thanks so much, Ruben. I was running install.php and didn't realize there was an upgrade.php. That's got to be the real issue, right? My number is already in the box at:
CP>Primary settings>Main Administrator User Id, so that part is good. OK, off to see if running the correct script makes a difference, lol.

Probably so.
I don't think you hosed anything running install yet.
So try upgrade and if you still have issues you can always open a support ticket.
They are great for support even for self inflicted problems.

And just for note, the "main admin id" is just an admin that other admin's can't edit; no real use that I can think of other than that.
