Been running boards for some years now and last week a lot of users experiencing timed out error messages trying to connect etc - anything I can look at as a possible cause?
thanks

ok - solved that - so back to my original problem of timed out errors - is there anything that may be causing that?

I assume with a dedicated host plan you have checked most everything needed. But in my case I find I have intermittent connection issues caused by my isp which makes timeout errors. Which is really hard to nail down with my local provider. Because they send the contractor first,Then they send a tech, then they issue it to a distribution tech which checks the hubs amplifiers and transmission lines down the street.
All of this takes several days or weeks sometimes. Then when they get here all is fine. So possibly a hop from your users is the culprit.

hmmmm
a) its a dedicated server (i am the only user on this machine) - not a shared plan as such
b) its located in Germany, Im in the UK
c) users of the forums from Ireland, Canada, UK etc are reporting same timed out errors

Dedicated server does not mean dedicated pipe. Your web host could be overloaded on their bandwidth. Just a thought. Larry www.marriageadvocates.com

Possible - though its 1&1 and they are Europe's largest hosting service - I have other sites that load from the server and they load super fast.

I've used them as a US based user, never was a fan, they always oversold space on their shared servers, and where always slow imo.

I'd look through your error logs when you're getting the timed out error. Maybe check the process list and see if you've got any type of CPU spike at that time.
What type of MySQL configuration are you running? Stock, or has it been tweaked and tuned?
