Hi guys

1) Which file do I edit to change the 'Shout Box' title text?

2) Could the shout box be run as a pop out at all or on its own page/link e.g. /forum/shoutbox - members often ask if I could provide a much larger box so they could see more activity as it's very popular. Even having the shoutbox on the portal page centred would be ideal as it would be wider for example.

Thanks as ever smile

If you go into the language editor you can search for anything and it will pull up the correct file(s). The shout box title is in portal_islands.php.

Here is a link to the naked shoutbox mod on UBBDev: http://www.ubbdev.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/315254/1.html

I'm not sure if it works or not.

The naked shoutbox that I just read about sounds good... would it still have the same permissions etc i.e. none members can not see or use it?

Sounds like there may be a solution after all.

I also have a iPhone/Android client that also works in Google Chrome, as well as a native Android app.

They require an added script in UBB.threads though, and are not (yet) available in App Store/Market.

Gardener,

that github solution you posted is very nice. i really like how you cleaned up the ubb part of it and went class based ( as much as possible )

i would _really_ like to see v8 come out where the entire xx_run and xx_gpc are enclosed in a ubbPage_class kinda dealio.

that way we ( developers ) would just be able to EXTEND from there.

that would open up all kind of possibilities without having to touch a line of stock code..

:2c:

i've recommended that approach, but am not sure if it'll make it in..

Yeah, that would be a really nice idea. Default classes which can be extended to override methods. And methods that only do one thing, without side-effects.

Having the login function actually redirect the user to a page is a bad idea, for example. Since I didn't feel like reimplementing the login functionality in my script, I just post to the login page and parse the result. Reaaaaally ugly.

BTW, if anyone wants to try the apps on their site, I'll gladly help out with configuration. It's pretty easy, the web app for iOS/Android is just a few files to upload and one config file to change. The Android app can be changed in the configuration by the user to point to the correct site, but I could compile a version with the correct default configuration for your site. In the future, I'm hoping to add a discovery/selection feature to use it with multiple sites.

Guys, is there a way that the shout box can 'remember' longer entries/conversations i.e. scroll back longer?

Yes there is smile

Take a look in scripts/getshouts.inc.php

At line 54 you will see...

$shout_limit = 30;

Alter that and you're good to go smile
