Hey SD, I'm really looking forward to the changes coming with UBB...one thing I'd like to know, for the future is, will it be possible to do an import of Wordpress posts to UBB as I will be wanting to revert to a fully UBB maintained site at some point?

yes, but it is too big of a hit for 7.6

i looked at it for possible future ( 7.7+ ) and that is possible, but no hard decision for now..

i'd definitely leave this option open for discussion however. good point.

bottom line ( for 7.6 ): just latest smarty v2.x branch

that would be an importer that would need to be written.. and i'm really not sure how you would want that done either.

blog --> forum import seems contra intuitive

It would be to simply import the posts on WP into a forum on UBB that would be the Portal source.

you'd probably need someone to write an importer for you..

or use RSS feeds to fill a forum that is fed to your portal. now _that_ is possible now, with a modification over @ UBBDev that already exists

I'm glad to see the Gallery gettin some love... We always used Gallery2, can't wait to see how future revisions enhance it now hehe

On an importer related note; once we get a firm grip on the gallery and eventually blogs, I think doing importers from other scripts with that functionality would probably increase some user satisfaction...

Good question!
Since existing styles will be missing the new settings.
Will there be a copy method from defaults like we have now with some of them.

Existing styles won't be affected, because we include the 'reset.css' file that pulls the markup in there.

This was a big flaw with version 8.0, where all styles were going to be BROKEN and to upgrade, you would be forced to go to the ONE style that Rick had in the works ( at the time ).

For version 7.6, we will maintain backward compatibility as much as possible, with only a few small items that may desire changes ( none to date are affected )

Ultimately over time, we will rely less and less on reset.css as totally _NEW_ themes are created to take advantage of any new look that they might want.

I was gearing up to abandon ship and was shopping for a new forum software... until now.

Really looking forward to bringing these upgrades to my forums.

it's been way longer than i had initially planned for, because i'm cleaning up a ton of dead code, renaming files to more meaningful ones, and overhauling the interaction in general..

i've also been hardening the security aspects, of which there were quite a few holes before.

now, with the ajax libraries in place, things are moving along more rapidly..

Is there a demo / beta site for us to play on yet

i've been hesitant to mention 'beta', but it is now getting to the point where those who PMd ( and are qualified ) me will be receiving invites to the beta forum to test....

then i'll switch to modifying the installer / upgrader mode...

after that, beta will be sent out to qualified testers to try out on their own..

time frame for this is up in the air, but much sooner than i had thought about 2 weeks ago

and also, much LATER than i had initially indicated...

IP address search feature?

Can we get the ability to search by IP address, that includes searching for all IPs used by a user as well as all users for a given IP? The later would be nice to search for partial IPs too.

I have to admit this is some of the best news of the year!

Albeit always good and bad when it comes to things like this. It is the reason I get asked all the time... when is the game coming live...and my response is always the same.. I am shooting for this date, but it is a calculated risk whenever you are talking about coding. (and the inherent bugs that comes with doing anything with a computer code).

I like the login dropdown, but I think when registrations aren't allowed, the register wording/functions need removed from the dropdown; otherwise other people will sit confused like I was until I ended up at your registration page...

yes, it is moving forward.

i have 3 items on my list to complete, then beta.

i currently have a consulting job that is taking my time, hence the downtime.

i'm looking to be sending beta invites when those 3 items are complete.

then we'll probably have 2 to 3 weeks of beta, which has me fixing bugs/tweaking small features and also writing the upgrader.

Well not really.
If it was allowed to have hundreds of beta testers with each having their own opinion and feedback. We would never get over beta.
Let alone it has taken forever to get past 7.5.6.

Typically in the past it has been the most active users that are invited to beta test.

BTW, just because I have a badge that states I am a beta tester does not mean I will be selected to test the up coming release.

i think SD talked about making the beta an open beta, meaning everyone can participate. I think this is due to the fact that the dev phase took too long.

If that is true, then I guess it is up to SD and brooks to decide!
