Something that I did not see when Rick owned mindraven, was the ENTRY PROCESS, it is now limited to 20, and is shutting down my sites from time to time..

Wonder what others are allowed? I have the platinum hosting with them.

What is your limit?

that is a metering mechanism that your host has in place. you should talk to them about it

i don't restrict users like that on my boxes, but it's really the hosting companies' philosophy for shared hosting.

Something new that Mindraven added. It was not there before the sale.
I have the same setting of 20 on a bronze account now.
Just a way to limit your number of concurrent connections to your host to force you to go to a vps or dedicated server. When you have several people logged on.
Before the sale we did not have that limitation.

I just checked and I have the same setting on Silver... Here is what I found about the limit on the cPanel site. Setting the right limits for shared hosting Stan you must have a very active site smile

ENTRY PROCESSES (Concurrent Connections) Limits the number of concurrent connections and cron jobs that an account can have at any one time.

Each time someone connects to Apache, a connection is used up. There are a limited number of slots in Apache web server for these connections (specified by MaxClients). It is set to 150 by default but often increased to 1000 or more on shared hosting servers. While connections are quickly served for static pages, dynamic pages take their time.

CPU throttling can cause such pages to take even longer to serve, tying up even more slots. Once all slots are used up, apache will not serve any new requests until existing requests are processed, bringing the whole server down. To prevent this issue we added another parameter that limits the number of concurrent connections a site can have. The default is 20. If a site has more than 20 concurrent connections to dynamic pages any further request will receive a 508 error (resource limit reached.)

It is important to note that concurrent connections are not the same as concurrent users. The majority of applications such as blogs, forums, etc., consider a user to be someone who visited a page within past 15-30 minutes. So, 300 concurrent users on the forum might mean only 5-6 concurrent Apache connections.

Have to, I have had a few problems over the past while, MindRaven has been very responsive and that has exceeded my expectations by a lot.

They are having to swap out a hard drive right now, that stuff just happens from time to time...

Just sayin'

Hi,

We have added these restrictions on our shared hosting servers to ensure a better stability on the server. With CloudLinux, if a site is hacked or crash due to a problem in his mysql databases, the site will not crash the entire server but only his environment.

Normally, 20 concurrent connections is more than enough, if you need more than this was the case of Stan, simply apply via our ticket system and your account will be updated and free of charge.

We only want the best for our customers.

Thank you.

As I have told others, the service I have received from the new Mindraven, has far exceeded my expectations.

FYI,
It is not just Mindraven.
Express Hosting also has that default setting of 20 entry processes.
At least on the cheapo hosting plan. That I elected in another post.
