My site is the same.

FTP password has been changed, too, so no way I can fix it.

Try administrator@mindraven.com, it's the owners email from his profile here (it's publicly listed in his profile)

I'm pretty sure the NEW owner setup the account here; and he's posted here several times in the last month (the new owner, not Rick).

I just spent some time going through iWeb and I'm 100% certain that they're just the datacenter; though they offer really cheap dedicated servers ($59/mo for a dual core celeron with 4gb ram, comeon)... So chances are that all of you are on a couple of their discount servers... At that price, I'm sure several of you are making mindraven quite a profit...

Not sure if this is the place to ask this but when we first signed up with Mindraven a year ago, it, along with UBB was owned by Rick B, correct? I bought domain name hosting, and UBB from Rick, one stop-shopping. Now Mindraven is owned elsewhere as we all aware. Who now owns UBB? Unfortunately we just renewed our domain name and hosting with MindRaven. I'm wondering if it's soon enough we can have that stopped through the credit card company and move our forums & websites elsewhere. But I don't even know who owns UBB now. If I were going to try this I'd need help. I can move my other websites but I don't know how to move the forum.. presumably it's not much different. Anyone care to discuss this with me while our sites are down?

We are no longer affiliated with Mindraven, I suggest having expresshosting.net move your sites over to them to avoid these and future issues, it's been one thing after another after Rick sold Mindraven.

Rick split Mindraven into 3 areas, Hosting, Dedicated Servers, and the UBB; he sold the UBB to UBBSystems, Mindraven he sold elsewhere, and he retains the dedicated server customers.

UBBSystems offers hosting under "Express Hosting".

It'd seem that Mindraven has issue after issue after the move... Keeping a server secure and up to date isn't rocket science, utilities on the server such as "yum" make running updates on a server fairly painless.

Rick sold UBB to us (UBB Systems), but kept the hosting business. He then auctioned off/sold the web hosting business (Mindraven) a few months ago. We would have bought the Mindraven hosting business as well, but we were not notified about the sale.

Tom at expresshosting.net will move the board for you at no charge.

Will Tom also answer all my dumbass questions? Seriously. Rick was great about that even if he did eventually throw us under the bus. If we can get the payment to Mindraven stopped through the credit card company I'll consider moving but it's got to be worth it in terms of tech support and reliability of course. I'm not continually demanding but I have my blonde moments and appreciate having someone to ask.

Ok, my site is back up, and I have a backup.

But of course, some jerk out in cyberspace likely has the password to the site. Can someone post the steps to change the site password and the forum password, without getting things locked up?

Hello everyone,

Yes we have been hacked.. the hacker have bypassed the suspension module in whmcs.. we are currently looking to fix this break with the whmcs staff because we have the latest version..

Everything is back now.. and don't worry it's just a "suspension" hack, no any websites are damaged.

Sorry about that, whmcs is reputed to be very secure.. we have no real control about this but we make our best at this time to find the break and block it !

Thank you for your understanding.

Not really fair to say this Gizmo, the quality of our servers is a priority at Mindraven and we don't own cheap server. We have only 4 cores servers and 8 cores servers with 8gb of ram each, configured in raid-1 with daily and weekly backups.

Lost files is not an option in our politic.

This case this morning is just a badluck and not related with our server security settings..

I find it sad to have consistently unpleasant remarks to our services as we always do our best for our clients. This type of situation can happen to anyone!

I can't speak for mindraven. But if it were me and I was hacked as a hosting service I would shut everything down till I found a resolution. Being concerned that it may impact all of my customers.
Would not you!

Rick was using whcms too on the old mindraven, if i remember correctly, so it probably woulda happened regardless ( assuming of course all other things being equal )

Good that the NEW Mindraven got on this and applied the patch.

I'm pro NEW Mindraven wink

nope..

it is a completely separate thing..

however, if you are currently running a NON patched version of ubbthreads, i highly recommend you do that.

the risk is that your site ( only the site ) will be compromised / hacked as others have found..

The websites have not been down but simply suspended. In WHMCS there are several modules which sends queries directly to the server, including a suspension module. The hacker has simply used this flaw in WHMCS to run the module suspension on all accounts on the server and then change the page of his suspension. Fortunately for us, no sites have been damaged. The hacker has just executed a command line that suspended all server accounts.

Yes i live in the state of Quebec, more precise at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Turn off the server is not always the best thing to do in this case.. After receiving the alert, it took only 20 minutes to realize that the hack was passing by the user WHMCS on our server so we systematically remove all the access to this account. For the rest, we needed about 1 hour to un-suspend all accounts on the server.

I prefer that your sites remain active and you know what's going on than simply shut down the server and give you no news.

You have it correct, that is the latest version.
The patch is to protect the software from a previous found attack.
This topic is about a attack on a web host. As mentioned already
Which the two are separate issues.

So you are good to go for the forum software.

You people need to contact Mindraven to resolve your issues.
Venting here is one thing but if you don't open a support ticket then they are not aware of any problems you have.

Also if you have logs enabled you would be able to view detailed info on the error instead of the generic message.

I plan to contact them Ruben, but this morning the only way to contact them was here as their mail server was hosted on the same server that was hacked.... Not sure keeping you business email server on the same shared server as your "Paying" customers is such a good idea....

Also if you have logs enabled you would be able to view detailed info on the error instead of the generic message.

I think I have this turned on but not sure where to look...

In your include folder, you have config.inc.php.bak & config.inc.php.

I have just replaced the two files and it seem to work now.

Israel, I lived in Québec for 8 years, in fact I was about 20 km from you in St Antoine sur Richelieu. Maybe you already know this but I can tell you that we Americans can be kind of intolerant. We aren't as nice as you Canadians, specially when it comes to politics and business!

Also it may not be the fault of Mindraven if you have not upgraded to the latest security patch.
BTW, I am with mindraven and currently my site is fine.

I just got an email from MindRaven (which is funny because I don't host with them, so evidently they took it from the affiliate table) which says:

Hi,

We are performing an emergency re-install on the server and will restore all of your last night backup.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your understanding.

seems the hacker really did a number on the server. Awaiting the backed up data to get everything going again.... I hope !!

A member was on my site just as it was hacked and said it was tn-pirate who hacked the server.

I googled tn-pirate and found a bunch of other sites he hacked and still controls.

Sorry for my late response here but since yesterday, i have sleep only 3 hours.. we work on this issue a lot !! We are the aim of an hacker team (TN_pirate & TN_scorpion). Since the latest hack the 13th January, we have invested 1000$ in security specialist and firewall equipment to prevent future attack and again.. we are attacked and this times the hackers have completely defaced the entire servers. Fortunately, we have off-site backup and we work a lot at this times to recovery all websites for tonight.

We are simply not lucky.. even the bigger web hosting company are hacked everyday like dreamhost, hostgator, etc..

When an hacker decide to kill you, is it really hard to block him, even if you are a worldwide web host.

Don't worry for your website, we make daily backup and all websites are up-to-date, only post from the day of 27th will be lost and we apologize for this.

Thank you to everyone for your understanding.

I am sure there is a valid reason. And I don't want to get into a mindraven bashing.

But myself I have had enough.

I have been offline all afternoon. Besides a existing email issue I started on yesterday.

I got this earlier:
Quote:
Mindraven Hosting

Hi,

As most of you may have noticed, we have had a few problems with security and the stability of our servers due to a recent, powerful hack.

We are working hard at Mindraven Hosting to fix everything that has been damaged by the pirate.

Our servers went down today for about 2 hours to perform an emergency security maintenance to make sure that what happened dosen't happen again.

Our servers MAY experience a few other downtimes during this next week because we will be greatly enforcing security and backup mesures.

If there are any downtimes, there should be pretty short and nobody should panic if sometimes, something is not working correctly on their website.

If your website seems to be affected by something, open up a support ticket and it will be a pleasure to assist you.

Again, we are truly sorry for what happened are actively working on solving all the problems we have.

We sincerely hope that this event didn't affect your trust in our company.

Thank you

Honestly, with issue after issue I don't see why you guys aren't demanding refunds and going elsewhere...

Hacked again! This time it has been down several hours. There is no response from the server when I try my site or my ftp connection.

Several other sites show:
This Site Was Hacked By
Tn-PiRaTe
TuN!S!3N H4Ck3R ...
All Muslims - Tunisia People - My Friends ..
*uck 4 : Israel <--I added the *

even gives an email: Tn-PiRaTe@HoTMaiL.Fr

If you Google "tn-pirate" dozens of hacked sites come up. He's obviously found a back door to break into many servers. Pretty danged annoying.

it was about 11pm est last night when I realized my site was down. All I ever saw was it was timing out. I never saw any evidence of it being hacked. I sent in a ticket last night and usually get a response within minutes but havent heard back.

Did anyone actually see the Tn-pirate message on their website this time?

Mindraven.com and my site are still dead.

Edit: 9:48 AM PST: My site just reappeared, then back to "Server not found" a moment later.

This from the iWeb blog:
Quote:
Update 09/02/2012 17:40 EST – The incident affecting our network network is now resolved. Note that a few servers are still experiencing connectivity issues...

But here 90 minutes after that post, Mindraven and all the sites managed by them (including mine) appear to still be down.

Folks. (ahdratlk, please to not take offense. Your posting is just the proverbial "straw".)

This is NOT the place to discuss issues with your hosting company.

Please... Enough talk of troubles with your host in these forums. These forums are to discuss topics related to the product UBB Threads.

The place to bring up host troubles is on their support forums (if they have them), or through their customer support (if they have that). Seemingly, some do not.

If I have trouble with my host, I do not post about it here. I bring it up with my host. What does anyone expect this community to do for them?

Considering the issues so many are experiencing with the host in question, it is a total wonder to me that anyone is still with them. Write off the loss and move on.

I cannot tell "UBBSystems" how to moderate their forums, but I'd of been deleting these topics on sight long ago.

For me? I am waiting for the promised (or at least alluded to grin ) St.Valentine's Day Massacre beta release. cool

Well part of the problem is that Mindraven and UBB used to be the same, and there are a bunch of us here that went with Mindraven because of that. I am the one that started this post originally because I knew that others might be having the same issue and I wanted to make sure it was not just me having issues....

This is also a community of Message board owners and I think we all should be making each other aware of issues with hosts and the software.

That being said if anyone wants to delete this post, I guess go ahead...

Mike and Gizmo:

There are a bunch of us sitting here in the dark, wondering what is going on with our servers. We cannot contact our hosting service since their site is ALSO down.

We all run UBB Threads software on our sites, so it would seem like this is the logical place to compare notes on the problem, since there is no other place to connect. I do hope that continuing this conversation in this single thread does not inconvenience the rest of the good people here.

It's not like we are spamming the entire community. Can you just ignore this one thread?

...and for that matter, I think iWeb is a pretty big hosting service, and somehow their entire DNS system was corrupted by some event. I have a hunch it is the hacker who has been causing Mindraven trouble these past several months. Who can say the hackers won't target THIS or somebody else's server in the near future. I would think some site admins might be interested in the events and experiences of the few of us here.

Well, it's not so much the one thread; we've had quite a few threads about mindraven issues that end up getting locked and people referred here...

You'd think that MindRaven would take the time to get their head straight, have secondary support options, perhaps even their own site operated off of a different server in case your stuff is down they can still be contacted.

That being said, anyone have number(s) for MindRaven?

I for one appreciate that UBBCENTRAL let this thread stand. Many of us had no where else to go to get any kind of update. Even Mindraven's email was down as the whole server farm shut down.

For reasons I have not been able to get a suitable explanation for, one of my sites that I needed up urgently for a interview on a World Wide Satellite Network came up in time for the interview.

I have the story here, if someone could give a good technical reason why this one site came up I would appreciate hearing it

The story is here.
http://clubadventist.com/forum/ubbthread...html#Post522158

The rest of the sites did not show for a number of hours.
