I've been using UBB since 1997, when I started my site. I even bought the "Gold" lifetime update thingie.
The problem is... no updates... ever.

I've been loyal, and silently, patiently waiting for the long-promised new version, but my forum is dwindling on a daily basis as users jump ship and get attracted by sites that have more "modern" features such as the various little things everyone has become accustomed to on Facebook and Google +. With site features that the general public now considers to be primitive, it's very hard to attract and maintain a user base that has been spoiled by "the Big Guys". How can anyone compete with the major players in social networking today?
We don't even have the login feature with which someone can sign up using their Facebook or Google account info to become a member immediately without filling in a form. This is a huge negative.
I'm sure Sir Dude is a very talented, hard-working, dedicated programmer, but the last "official" announcement about progress was made in autumn of 2011, and things have gone awfully quiet since then.
Is there any real reason I should keep on waiting, or should I look for a bright, shiny alternative before I lose 100% of my membership? These days, it seems as though forum members want modern *features*, and when they don't find them, they grow annoyed and hot & bothered and leave for greener pastures. UBB doesn't even display properly on a tablet or a smartphone -- unusable on mobile devices. Another huge hit on membership participation.
I feel completely dejected about having waited so long, and my once-thriving, busy site is slowly becoming a ghost town... people refuse to use the primitive "Gallery", it's virtually impossible to change the site layout and get something that looks a little bit customized and "fresh" int he way of theme choices, unless you can write your own PHP code it's very difficult to incorporate a "+1" button or "Like" button without getting random unwanted pictures in the shared item and all the non-member text about "Please Login" instead of the post text that was supposed to be shared.
I'm really, really sad about it, but I think I may have waited patiently too long, and my business has taken real damage from waiting.
(sigh)
