We don't know what version you use or what you have for settings to allow a user or other admin to change names, Or etc.
posting is simply setting permissions to allow the members group to post in the desired forum.

well if you just upgraded to v7.5.8 from a early v7 then you should advise all members to
expire their cookies and login again.
This can be done in the mystuff menu.
a lot of changes have happened on the cookies.
So many users may have assorted problems.

lets deal with one issue for now.
If it is okay with the member.
goto member management and use the log in as feature.
See if you have problems using his login.
If you don't possibly his login is incorrect or he has a corrupted cookie.
He can request a forgotten password.
the link is just below where he would put his password.
Other than that he could manually delete his cookie in his browser settings.

Now for name change.
In the logs who is the person that changed the name?
You or who?

Oh one more item for login.
User name and display name can be different names.
The member may be using display name where the user name is needed for login.
In fact here my display name is Ruben but for login it is a different name.

Hi Thanks for the reply first answer I did sign on with his info" Become this member" it showed his name but I could not go onto the forum using his login. I forwarded him a new password and waiting to see if he can log in'

I did not change the user names the Admin log for the "changes user" list 2 two ip address from 9-22 till 10-23 this happened 42 times .Not from my ip address. I don't know how far back this issue goes I started getting calls mid June from new members saying they could not post and new members sig up dropped way off.

If you used the cp to login as him then he won't be able to either.

Humm if the Admin log does not list a user I would suspect you may have been hacked.
It would list like:
Date Username User IP Operation Description

So if a user name is missing I would say time for a intrusion cleanup.

Just so you know to do this means first to compare what files belong on your site and delete the ones that don't.
Then compare the file contents to what it should be. And replace those files.
Third would be change your dbase user name and password.
Four would be to change admin or users with cp access, login info.
Five would be to delete un-needed users access from the control panel.
It is not a pretty picture.
But that is what happens when you lapse in updates.
Since even though we have not had much for feature updates. The last several updates have mostly been security updates.

If you don't do all the steps.
Then the security violation access is still there.
With past security holes found.
They possibly have placed a script either stand alone or embedded in a existing UBB script.
Or even in a signature.

Bad stuff for sure.

I think I know who was on the cp but still can not track down why new members could not post , I have had emails from new members that were ask to join another board where they could post. Again Thanks for the help , I contacted someone that may be able to check the files and the matching data.My thoughts are the person was just after email addresses and distract people away form my board.

as administrator, we are receiving request for password reset/s as any normal website would, but we are unable to reset a password for them. Also existing users are unable to make a post in the forums as they have been able to do before. Also is the view count correct for this thread? 60000+ views? And is this a issue for many admins? Also i cannot seem to find contact info besides a email to get technical support from UBBCentral...any help with that?

At this point all I can offer is:
somebody needs to access your ubb cp at the very least and see if something is obvious to correct.
Then in addition possibly ftp access to your files.
As stated before a url to your site may help so we could attempt a registration.
