Hi,
We are having an issue with Captcha where it would sometimes not generate the verification image.
I've verified that the gallery and registration settings Graphic library is set to GD2. If we refresh the page, an image usually gets generated 9 times out of 10. But if we refresh another couple of times at least 1 time it wouldn't generate an image.
Thanks

ImageMagick would be the preferred method, the caveat being that it's not always installed on servers.
What is the contents of the "/public_html/forum/images/captcha/backgrounds" folder on your server? There should be an index.html file and two images; if there is anything else in the folder it could be causing grief (same thing goes for the fonts directory under cache as well, only there are two font files and an index.html file).

My captcha forlder contains: --Captcha/ --index.html --backgrounds/ --background1.jpg --background2.jpg --index.html --fonts/ --bullpen_.ttf --eflb.ttf --index.html
There isn't a font folder under the cache folder. only the one inside the captcha

What6 image library are you using? Or I should ask which ones do you have? GD2 or Imagemagick.

There is a third location in the control panel. Control Panel » Display Options [-] Post/Reply Page Options Use this Graphics Library for CAPTCHAs: I would go back to all three locations and even if it looks correct save it again.
Other than that it could be a host or connectivity issue, when the image is attempting to load.

We found what was the issue with the captcha.
Installing Imagemagick techically didn't fix the issue but it did give out a nice error message, unlike GD2. It was trying to gererate an image using the Thumbs.db file that was in the backgrounds folder. It was hidden in the windows explorer so I didn't see it the first time. Deleting that file fixed the errors.
Thanks for the help.

Ahhhh. I assume you either have a windows server or when you uploaded the scripts your pc created it. As gizmo stated nothing extra should be in those folders. I had a ftp program years ago and when you would download a backup it created a log file in every folder. so it would hose the captcha every time.

You should configure your remote administration tool to always show hidden files and folders.
