Many of our members allow their real emails to be seen in their profile by other logged in members.

When a member is not logged in the default page (www.domain/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm

Displays left and right columns with islands. Once logged in users can choose to turn those column on or off.

The issue is that post islands for Online, Top Posters, New Members have active links to member profiles. If the member allows their email to be displayed by populating the Public Email field they not only make it public to logged in members but also to the entire world through the live links in post islands.

Is there an (easy) way to prevent the post islands from turning user names into live links when the user is not logged in? It is OK to show the post islands with user names. We just don't want to have clickable links to profile pages.

A lot of our members are happy to share their email addresses within the community but do not want to publish to the world.

Hopefully I've just missed a setting somewhere.

Not sure if this works for you but have you tried:
Control Panel » Group Management » Site Permissions
Guests Group( non registered user group)
Turn off (Set to 0) for say:

Can view the Member List
Can view Member Profiles
Can email posts to others
Can use the shoutbox
Can See Extra User Info
Can see the shoutbox

Some or all of those settings may accomplish what you want.
There are other ways to limit guest access as well.

Ruben

Thanks but they were already set to '0'

The issue is names in the various post islands are hyperlinks and when you click on them you do see a profile screen.

UPDATE: If I move to another browser and do not log in then it does not allow me to view the information. Although I had logged out prior to my test in the first browser I suspect there was still cookie information around that allowed the link to display the user profile.

If I log out, log in with a different user name, and then log out again it will request login information before displaying the profile. Strange. I did check multiple times before I posted.

I can only assume that the first browser was using cache pages
You did not say which one it was.
I would clear the cache in that browser and try again.
