Is anything displaying in your error logs in your webspace? Can you try running the "UBB.threads v7.6.0+ System Requirement Test - 20151204" and post back any errors?

Up to 7.5.9; 7.6.0 will require PHP5.3.

Ok I have 7.5.9 on the server but it is hanging on the createtable.php of the install script. Just a white screen. Last step of the install setup.

Also, is there a reason for such an antiquated system? You may run into issues running any modern script in php4/mysql4 these days, including things not even processing. It's possible that you'll have to try an older build of the UBB to get it to operate with an older setup.

Yes the reason for running an antiquated system is that it is left over from when I closed my data center years ago. I had a heart attack a few years ago and limited on my income and spending. When I get enough money in the future I may buy a new server that fits my needs but until then this is what I have to work with. I still, after all these years, have maintained my ICAN Netblock and internet connection in case I ever wanted to use it in the future. I wanted to build a nice community for something to do and keep my mind fresh. Sorry if I was point blank but you asked. Any more questions?

No there is nothing in the error logs in the system. I had also though about installing an older version of the UBB then upgrading to the newest one as an easier option as I have not setup or created the community as of yet and I have nothing to loose LOL.

I had previously read that you had some health issues in the past; I hope you're doing better since then.

Is there any possibility of upgrading the system to use a newer build of PHP/MySQL? It won't just be the UBB you'll be running into issues with, any relatively recent (within the last 8-10 or so years) PHP script will possibly just "not work" as features have been added to the core of PHP that newer scripts rely on. PHP4 has been EOL for quite some time (PHP5 has been around since 2003 whereas the last release of PHP4 was in 2008) as well.

Out of curiosity, what kind of specs are on the server? My CentOS 6.7 machine is only a quad core 2ghz processor with 4gb ram; I'm running PHP 5.6.17 and MySQL 5.1.73.

Honestly that would be a major task for me to do right now. Years ago, and I think you may remember, I was quite sharp and a proficient programmer but these days I have not been doing well on the memory area. I may build a completely new server and set everything up on it but it would take me quite some time to install all the server software and setup everything. Sorry for being this way but all seriously I would need to sit here with the Linux, PHP, MySQL, and Apache manuals and page through everything one page at a time to be able to set it all up. I know this would take me weeks to install the software and set it up properly. I plan to do it though but I just can't right now and I would just like to get this all up and running and maybe have the community open in 2 months as it is. If I start from scratch it may take me a year to get it open.

Gizmo I do remember you from the past and I remember you are very good at these things as I believe I use to be. I have several disabilities that are now limiting me on many things and I just feel useless sometimes. I hope you never have to know how this feels my friend.

Oh I'm running a 3.2 Gig machine with 2 gig of ram on a 1TB HDD. It's running CentOS installed under the BlueQuartz 4.8 installer. Yes I know it is old but right now this is what I have to work with. You don't even want to know what I'm using for DNS servers LOL.

I think if you installed a base system and configured Webmin/Usermin/Virtualmin that it'd do the rough task of installing the dependencies (if you installed on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux derivative like CentOS), though I paid someone at my host to tune my Apache server after I got everything setup. At least you'd be able to operate a community on it and not have to worry about a resource hog of a CPanel solution, plus Webmin is free and open source versus something like CPanel or DirectAdmin (I actually prefer Webmin/Virtualmin over any other control panel).

I take care of my 68 year old mother these days, and they've just diagnosed her with brain shrinkage related to Alzheimers, so I'm already on a road of learning things on this level, other than just volunteering at a senior facility like my son and I have done in the past.

is it a single core? if so you might experience some significant load just from a modern install of CPanel, I'd totally recommend Webmin on there if you reconfigured

Gizmo I may do that on the server setup as you suggest. I perhaps will private message you in the near future and exchange phone numbers if you like and we can communicate easier for a few things.

One problem I have though is that I am the web host LOL. Yeah I was good at it years ago but time has caught up with me. Unfortunately I'm only 48 and have all these issues to deal with LOL. Hopefully I have a few more years to enjoy things. I almost cashed in Memorial Day 2012. One minute I was great. The next I was dying and being rushed to a hospital 50 miles away into emergency surgery. Right from the pad to the operating table. I was told by the floor that I was the first to ever walk out of the ward under my own power with the heart attack I had. Most before me went out feet first and the rest in a bed to the next ward. The entire hallway was lined with medical staff and I was applauded, I was dumbfounded and asked my aid why the fuss. That's when he told me I was the first. My doctor told me if I wasn't as physically as strong as I was I would have never made it there.

Life is short, enjoy every minute of it. I know personally how that minute may become your last. wink

My sites don't really do much by way of traffic to warrant anything more than I'm running; but when I was working at a webhost we had a good 30 servers at one time that we where working with all the time. These days though I mainly deal with client machines (some with upwards of 100gb ram) and my little VPS.

Man, that's crazy; I'm sure a big part of it was probably how quickly you got attention as well.

When Trey was little my ex wife and I decided that I'd stay home with the kids and she'd work out of the home because I could do sidework online, and I started to do that full time then. These days I've got two kiddos and I'm still trying to live on whatever side work I can find (but going from $16-18/hr doing Adobe Level II tech support on Photoshop to trying to do web development full time is a really big change; even now after several years, lol). I keep being told it's "weird" to see a full time dad, lol.

Yes it is rough. I was a network engineer by day and a sound engineer by night and weekend.

I had started back into the sound stuff and built a very nice compact long range high output out door system right before my heart attack. I posted pictures in the gallery here of the behind the scenes of a video being made. Anyway for a year my sound system sat here in my house and I didn't know what to do with it, like $80,000 wasted. I decided to take on a partner with no money needed and just hand it over to him. I attend maybe 1 show a month right now but we book between 4 to 8 a month. I never have been in the newly created recording studio yet but have a mixing room in my house for doing final mixing.

Anyway my dream of doing fairly large venues outdoors and large inside venues is alive. We don't to like arenas lol but we do like 1,000 people indoors and such. This summer I want to step it up and do 3 or 4 shows a month. My partner is awesome and is doing a great job. He knows when I cash in it's going to become his baby anyway.

Back to your original question.
Without much research on past versions.
I believe that around version 7.5.6 it was determined that, members were having issues with their host upgrading the php, apache and mysql versions. So it was up-graded to support the newer versions.
Even though the current version should be backwards compatible somewhat.

So I would suggest you try prior to 7.5.6.
Giz is just trying to figure out what the issue is because it should work.

Well I built a new server running CentOS 7.2 Build 5209R PHP 5.4.16 and MySQL 5.5.37 and it passed the test script.

I loaded my site on it and tested it and it is running fine and fast. I do not have it live at this time but will upgrade it to the latest version of the UBB first. Once I have it running well I will then take to old server out and reload the server software and transfer the site back and put a 1TB HDD in the temp server and clone the regular server as a backup on standby.

Yes LOL. Here is what happened. When I installed the server we originally put the UBB on it was running like a raped ape. Then a few days later I was experiencing some lag in all areas of the server so I thought it was the server software. I slapped together a new machine and installed the upgraded OS and all that and put the site on it not paying attention to much.

After I was finished I noticed the old machine was again running super fast and no problems. The new machine has a small drive in it so I had decided to just use it as a temp server till I re do the old one and upgrade it. I'm still planning on putting a new larger HDD in the new machine and still upgrading the old machine's software. BUT...... it was a small backbone issue as to where the provider had an issue. I should have looked at the gateway log file for errors before I started the upgrades LOL.

Anyway I got a new machine and will upgrade the old one and run them as mirrors just in case. I will say all this new stuff is a little bit of a learning curve and much has changed since I closed my data center a few years ago.

Could be older hardware, could also be because of speed improvements in the last couple of PHP releases; on 5.6 my sites are faster than when I was on 5.3 (with the only difference being an upgrade to PHP).

I bet you feel pretty accomplished after going through it on your own, especially after your health problems.

Actually I found it is the backbone provider is having some issues.

I installed the new UBB 7.5.9 in the thing and it truly didn't like that it totally messed up my javascript head template for the site and didn't like the dark control panel look or feel, to hard on my eyes trying to see the stuff. I went back to the UBB 7.5.6p2 for the site. I have not put the server live as all I need to do is change the routing to it but it is ready to go.

The first thing we changed in the up coming v7.6.0 release was overhauling the control panel.

I'm not sure why or how the JavaScript was affecting your site layout, it's changed very little in the 7.5 series.

It's effecting the tables in my javascript when writing them to the page.

Here is the code for writing:

I generally use the html includes portion of the control panel to set my site layout (like on A Gardeners Forum or UGN Security).

I am a Web Development Contractor, I do not work for UBBCentral. I have provided free User to User Support since the beginning of these support forums.

Yes I am pulling that script into there and executing it that way. I sent you a view source link to see the whole thing. To much for a simple post in here.

Have you tried the body on load or header default field?
Sometimes I find it works better to upload a script file and reference it in either html field.

The head is a .js file called into the head of the message board. What had happened is it wont allow a table td tag to be one pixel high now with the latest version but the smallest is 10 pixels high making my design totally crappy looking. I had reverted back to the older version I was running.

Somewhere in the template .css or something was changed and it is called for a table breaking my little script. The reason I wrote this script is so that at various times of the day and through out the year my design changes automatically and also adds different messages or information a the top of the page. If it is ok I can list the URL here for the site and stuff and you can see the head design template I made.

I wont upgrade to any newer versions if I can't have my "morphing" site design on the top of the site. I would really love to upgrade, as I renewed my upgrade license, to the latest version of the software even if I have to totally rewrite the administration area as it looks bad and hurts my eyes with the colors selected for it. I can't tolerate the dark colors in the control panel.

Well I think it is okay to list your url. Unless it is a adult site.
In fact most times we request a url to view the result.
Now if guests can't see it then?

You should know this already Past tense( Lockerman)

LOL, Nahh it's not an adult site hahaha, I wish I was making that type of money.

I can setup the UBB 7.5.9 in a secure area and give you access to see what it does to the head script if you like.
