Is there a setting for clearing/updating the cache for the Recent Posts portal?

It doesn't seem to do it without help (by clearing cache in CP)

Within the Control Panel, click on either:
the "Update Layout" button at the bottom of "Portal Layout"
the "Submit" button at the bottom of "Portal Settings"

Either of these will rebuild the entire portal on demand smile

I'm pretty sure I've done that several times.

I'll do it again though and keep an eye on it.

If the recent posts it is listing are truly the recent posts, then it will refresh with the same information until there is new information available for it.

"Recent Posts" is not a default Island. Though, it can be created using a Post Island template.

You may want to revisit your Portal Layout for the Post Island you have titled as "Recent Posts" and confirm the "Island Type" is what you're looking for... ie; New Topics vs Recent Posts.
edit: And its cache time smile

I dont recall that there ever was an issue with this feature not working, but if you're having trouble with this, I'd like to hear more details

Yes, it's a Post Island.

Type: Recent Posts
Multiple Forums
Cache Time 5 min
'Always Build' not selected

I did 'Update Post Island' too

I'll keep an eye on it

Im not sure what your Island's cache is set to, but by comparing with this page (which is real time), im not seeing the problem.

I'm looking at you Recent Posts island, and it appears to be updating, considering it says that the last several posts where this morning.

As of right now it's not showing Rubens post almost an hour ago.

I have the post island cache set to 5 min

It seems to have a mind of it's own.

Humm,
If the post finally appeared then my post in the island is gone now
Possibly need to manually delete the cache files and rebuild them.
Maybe you have a orphaned cache file.

Other than that Not sure since you say you re saved the settings for the island.
Maybe you need to re select the forums included in the island.
I know you have been tweaking things.

I did see it, but then I made a test post after you in the same thread.

After I did that I happened to think about changing the who's online settings to 120 min so I could see if any members logged in during that time in case it had some effect on the post Island updating.

After changing the who's online settings I noticed my test post @ 12:53 PM was showing up in recent posts and I made another @ 12:55 PM, which has not shown up yet (52 min now)

I've really only been changing font sizes, adding padding and test decoration to underline links in a couple styles.

Anything other than that is above my pay grade.

Somebody just posted a new topic a bit ago in NEC & other Code issues.
I don't know if that forum is included in the island but let's see if it appears.

It is as far as I know. I don't want to Log in and check right now. I know the Gallery is not included.

Question... should the files within cache_builders be 666? mine are 644

would that make a difference as far as this issue goes?

Rule of Thumb:
Files: 666
Folders: 777

Some servers will not allow scripts to be executed out of a folder that is CHMODDED 777; if this is true on your server, your base UBB.threads folder (the one holding all of your files) and the admin folder should be 775 or 755.

Lack of proper chmods on the cache builder file should only matter for using the editor in the control panel. You can read about the chmods needed on the UBBWiki article Uploading the Software Files

Just to add Giz.
The island seems to be hit or miss to update between 2hours to a few minutes, but eventually it will update. However clearing cache or re-saving the island will update it immediately.
I don't have ftp access but checking in the ubb control panel ,permissions pass, cache settings are like 5 minutes for the island and wol is like 10.
he says he has not hacked any scripts except for what iassic told him for flushing page views in the login file and some style css settings.
Now he does have a few html includes using extenral stuff such as wol in the footer.
I have cleaned up a bit and ran all the rebuilders which helped the slow board. but this is still the issue.

I suggested to setup a virgin test board on the site to see if it is a script/library file or possibly a host server issue.

At this point I gave up.
Bill has posted that the chmod is 664 so possibly this maybe the cause.

POST ISLAND only gets a trigger to be rebuilt when:

• A new post is added
• A post is deleted
• A post edited
• A post is moderated
• Any Inline post moderation
• At user login
• At user logout

And thats only if
time() - PORTAL_LAST_BUILD > PORTAL_CACHE (for that island)

If none of these things happen, then the portal's cache for the POST ISLAND is not updated.

• The POST ISLAND cache is manually recreated when updating any portal information or clearing the cache in control panel.

Thanks. But I may add that repeated posts don't update the island either. I forgot to add that..
Meaning reply's in the same topic or different topic or net new topic of the selected forum included have the same result.
Also in the island only forums are selected and it is posts not topics.
I myself have never seen this before.
Enlighten me please.

Oh, he is using 7.5.9

My prior post reply to Giz on chmod 664 was a reply that if it was incorrect then why would clear cache allow it to update.

I was simply replying to his request of what needs chmodded; a chmod on the cache builder is only going to affect the editor in the control panel.

He does not recall any mod to the code.
So i suggested to install a test board with virgin scripts.
if it works then it would give us a clue on something is different between the two.
I can't use anything like beyond compare because I don't have ftp access.

Unless a bunch of people have reported this same problem I don't see a point in spending any more time on this.

Thanks for your time,

Looking forward to 7.6
