After upgrading to 7.6.0 I notice now in most text like a question mark icon random all over the text that was not there in version 7.5.9

How can I correct this as shown below as example

Competition oriented tires have rubber compounds that lose flexibility and may develop surface cracks in the tread area at temperatures below -7 C (20 F). Always store competition oriented tires indoors and at temperatures above -7 C (20 F) when not in use.

If the tires have been subjected to -7C (20F) or less, let them warm up in a heated space to at least 10C (50F) for 24 hours or more before being installed or driving a vehicle on which they are installed.

The all-new 2015 Corvette Z06 is the most powerful production car ever from General Motors, with its all-new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine SAE-certified at 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm.

More than raw power, the LT4 delivers exceptional capability in a more efficient package, making it one of the most compact 650-horsepower automotive engines in the world.

The LT4 Small Block delivers the ultimate horsepower and torque for the most capable Corvette ever, said Jordan Lee, chief engineer and program manager, GM Small Block Engines.
Its tremendous low-end torque, enabled by a more efficient supercharger, maximizes responsiveness for a driving experience that is on par with the worlds most exotic supercars with impeccable manners that make it suitable for daily driving.

To achieve its world-class balance of performance and efficiency, the LT4 leverages the technologies introduced on the 2014 Corvette Stingrays LT1 Gen 5 Small Block, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing, while advancing the supercharging technologies established with the previous-generation Corvette ZR1s LS9 engine.
That includes a new, more compact and higher output supercharger/intercooler assembly that helps maintain a low hood profile, while also meeting the pedestrian protection requirements in the global markets where the Z06 will take on the worlds supercar comers.
Its also 20 pounds lighter than the LS9s supercharger.

The LT4 is only one inch taller than the naturally aspirated LT1 engine, said Lee.
Along with a lower profile under the hood, the new, very compact supercharger helps the engine make power more quickly
and perhaps more importantly, it helps produce more torque earlier in the rpm band.

Thanks

Make note of your characterset in /languages/english/generic.php If it's UTF-8 by default now, so just rolling back to iso-8859-1 should make everything look the same.

Yes, you can do it through the language editor in the control panel as well.

Control Panel - Languages - Search / Edit Language Strings then select generic.php language file in Choose Specific Language File.

using that would be easier as I edited the contents of file via note pad and sent back to proper folder on server

You also posted this question in 2015. Back when you were scraping content from other websites...
https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/256380/

NOTE: There is nothing in the UBB.threads 7.6.0 upgrader which would change your default character set from what you were previously using.

The 7.5.9 upgrader had a bug that switched the default to "utf-8". But that has since been corrected in 7.6.0.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using UTF-8 or iso-8859-1?

If you're starting a NEW forum, UTF8.
If you have the TIME to CONVERT your forum (if you use non-latin characters, you'll likely need to spend some $), UTF8
If you have an EXISTING forum, DO NOT want to convert, or if your native forum language is NOT English, then you'd probably just want to stay at iso-8859-1.

on the topic of utf8 what flavor do you use now for usa-english.
Then newer servers have all kinds of elections for utf8 but none state english or whatever is not even close.to the old iso-8859-1. latin_swedish_ci
Except for like
utf8_bin
utf8_general_ci
utf8_unicode_ci
Plus like 15 other flavors with a language suffix

UTF8_MYSQL_500 I believe it's called, if your MySQL version has the option; otherwise UTF8_GENERAL.

Yes, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16589472/mysql-whats-utf8-general-mysql500-ci

If your server had it available (MySQL 5.5.3+) the choice I'd choose would be utf8mb4_unicode_ci

Otay,
Thanks Giz
I have read that in another place but it was somewhat greek to me.
Since I was looking at converting iso-8859 to utf8.
I should not have any special characters in the db so I was not sure of other steps I may need such as repair tables.

Hmm I'm a bit puzzled here, I noticed my forum now was UTF-8 and since 7.6 i have had a few strange caracters so I checked in the php info

Quote
Directive Local Value Master Value
iconv.input_encoding ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-1
iconv.internal_encoding ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-1
iconv.output_encoding ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-1

so I changed the generic.php to ISO-8859-1

So I read UTF-8 is better but what is you recommendation.
Should I change back to UTF-8 ? but what about the php info up there.. puzzledI am.

UTF8 is best, it's the current standard; if you can either live with the black diamonds for old posts or want to take the time to try to convert them
