I cannot get my generic footer to display. This is a site-wide footer, here is the code I am using:

<!-- MANDATORY FOOTER STARTS -->
<!--#include virtual="/orn/common/mainfooter.stm" -->
<!-- MANDATORY FOOTER ENDS -->

The hr displays but nothing else. The path is correct. This is just a 6.3 test board for now, url is http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/categories.php?Cat=

I tried removing the <!-- and no luck. Per Josh, I also dropped the code directly into the ubbt_footer template and no luck.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think it will work just like that since that is an SSI type of an include and those won't get executed in php. I think what you might need to do is actually copy the HTML code from the common footer into the generic footer so it's duplicated in the forums as well.

I think, you could change that to something like:

<?
virtual("/orn/common/mainfooter.stm");
?>
<!-- MANDATORY FOOTER ENDS -->

Assuming you are doing mixed html/php page.

Srinivas, thanks for the suggestion but that didn't work.

Rick, maintaining this footer across 50+ forums will be a major PITA - there has got to be some other solution.

Is it the same footer that appears on all the forums? If so, then if you put it into the generic footer then it will show across all forums and you'll only have to maintain it in one place.

Use a php include in the ubbt_footer.tmpl and leave the html footer empty. I do this on mine.

Rick, I do want this to display forum-wide, that's the beauty of the include and why I'm going nuts trying to get this work. It does not work as the generic footer nor does it work as custom footer for a forum nor does it work when thrown in the ubbt_footer.tmpl file.

JC, thanks for your help. I know almost nothing about PHP so actual complete code would be helpful for this noobie.

Joe,

Are you using this in .tmpl page or in the header.php include page. For example, on our forums we have our includes/header.php as below:

?></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">And it works as intended. You can check if the INCLUDED file itself is accessible on your server first. On mine you can access:

http://www.hindunet.com/hindunet_includes/top.shtml

As far as I know "virtual" is a quick and dirty way to include another page from your server into a PHP page.

I am not able to access your 'virtual' file directly from the browser itself:

http://www.4x4wire.com/orn/common/mainfooter.shtm

May be once this is configured correctly the "virtual" will work as it supposed to.

Srinivas, our footer can be called in a browser on its own. I tried your suggestion in the ubbt_footer.tmpl and it still doesn't work.

Is there something special in the footer that you're trying to include or is is it just standard HTML?

It is just plain html. You can view it here:

or click the forum link in my sig to see it (slightly different due to no includes in Classic).

Your first reaction is the path is wrong in my include up top: it's not, due to symbolic links. The actual path is /www/orn/common/mainfooter.stm and I've tried that repeatedly.

You might want to open a trouble ticket on this. Can't see any reason why this wouldn't be working for you as it's pretty standard.

Just fyi. The method I suggested will not work in *.tmpl, it works only in the *.php as in "footer.php".
