I have one user who keeps getting the following message when they try to post or reply to threads.

quote:

The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host.

Please use your back button to return to the previous page.

I'm using UBB.threads 6.2 at http://www.coreplanets.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php

I cannot duplicate the problem, and I've had no other members complain of a similar problem.

If you want you can turn off reffers in the config settings. It's most likely a firewall issue or security setting on their end.

If you want your users to adjust their settings instead (for norton personal firewall or zone alarm pro etc...) instructions can be found here.

I've sent him an email to see if he's running any firewall software.

He tried it at work and it worked fine, and still no other users are having this type of problem. Pretty much narrows it down to something on his home computer, specific to him.

Yeah, the refer check makes sure that they came from YOUR URL before posting. Some security settings prohibit this information from getting sent from the browser. When that's the case, it gives Invalid host.

Also, in your config file, you can check the settings for domain your site is running under. (Second setting under 'Site and Display Settings') You might want to give it multiple ways. Separate them with a |

For example, in that field put:

http://www.mydomain.com|http://mydomain.com|www.mydomain.com|mydomain.com

That's what I do to make sure I'm covering all the bases. [Wink]

Turns out this user is using Norton Systemworks. To verify its the cause I've requested him to try the site with Systemworks briefly unloaded. If it works, I'll point him to the firewall settings link posted above, while at the same time changing my config for the multiple domain references.
