Hello,

Could someone please let me know the following. The information in the install guide is not clear. Thank you.

1) Does the import alter the original threads database? If yes, what happens if the import/upgrade fails?
2) If we wish to set up a test site, do we have to duplicate our existing threads database first? If yes, how do we do that?
3) Does our licence allow for a public test site?

Apologies for the bumb questions, but I do not wish to try and set up a test site if it will affect our live site.

Essentially my site is currently at mydomain.com/forum and I need to set up a test at mydomain.com/beta using my existing members database and my existing forums and posts - I do not really want a blank brand new test forum.

If this post is in the wrong forum, please move it.

Thank you.

No, buts it is a good idea to close our old board for the import time.

No, you import from your old one to a new one (and this doubles the needet space in your db)

I m not 100% shure but I guess so.

Thanks. If we have to close our existing board, maybe it is an idea to make a copy of it. Any thoughts on this?

Does the import create a new database or does it simply make some extra tables with different prefixes?

Thank you.

I believe since this is a beta test that it's "alright" to have a seperate install for testing. Generally wiht licenses you can run only one productive forum on your server.

Thank you.

Is there an easy way to copy my database?

If you have a second database setup you can dump out your first one and import into the second for a copy. Command line access would be the quickest and easiest with:

mysqldump -u username database1 > database1.dump

mysql -u username database2 < database1.dump
