I'm curious if you can make ratings a global option to turn on and off. We use UBB.threads and every time we upgrade I have to go into the code and manually comment out all of the ratings coding. We find ratings to be really "divisive" in our forums at BellaOnline, with people rating discussions up or down based on the topic. We have for example a pro-life and a pro-choice pair of topics. You can see how this gets nasty.

I'd really like it if I could just turn off all ratings in the control panel, so that it's a permanent entry.

I agree. Few users take the time to rate a thread, aside from the people who create it or participate in it. I'd like the option of turning it off.

Good idea, seems natural as well, since it's already possible to turn off user ratings.

On one of my boards we changed the topic rating to a thumbs up/down version, which greatly increased the usage and the general acceptance of the rating system. The view shows how many percent has voted thumbs up, as long as there are 5 or more voters (configurable).

This worked great for us, but otoh we don't have nearly as flameprone discussions, even though some seem to be bloody serious about their hobby.

We disable all the ratings manually also so I'd like to see the option too.

I'm one of the crowd that would like to see the ratings allowed to be turned off.

At my site--with a bunch of menopausal women and middle school mentality (what can I say?! :p)--it'd be disastrous to allow ratings.

Missed replying to this one. User ratings have always been an option to turn off. In version 7 you'll be able to turn off topic ratings as well.
