#70360 - 04/11/03 08:48 PM Time spent maintaining UBB.classic vs UBB.x?

Hi,
I'm going to start a message board and I wanted to know approximately how much time the average person spends maintaining their UBB.classic message board per month...I'm talking about a message board that is fairly small, maybe 300-500 users...I'm leaning toward using UBB.x because of the time involved...Any comments in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

See ya...Jerry

Really, the only time you really do maintenance is if you have corrupt files or upgrades. Upgrades are quick and painless

UBB.x, all the upgrades are done automatically.

Hi,
I was concerned that if someone else hosted UBB.classic that any problems with the software might take up to much of my time...

Once it is installed and working it usually keeps working without any problems.

The only time I spend on my boards is reading all the new posts and once a month removing all the members that registered but never posted. And it just takes just 2 minutes to delete those people.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies!...The problem is maybe I might not be able to get to a computer for 3 or 4 days and if something happens on my "hosts end" using UBB.classic I won't be able to help (if I'm even able to do something)...Going to a message board that might be down for 3 or 4 days would be brutal.

I know in the long run UBB.classic would be cheaper...I'm also thinking about not being able to move UBB.x to UBB.classic on another server in the future...I'm sure the members wouldn't like losing all of their previous posts (archives) etc...Hopefully I'm not getting to paranoid about using UBB.classice vs UBB.x.

See ya...Jerry
