Hello, I am currently a user of a UBB version 6.05. We have just been assigned our first moderator. Could anyone please tell me what a moderator has access to? Can a moderator OR admin see PM's? Can they see who I have rated and what I have rated them?

Also, on a private forum, would the persons post total reflect any posts made on a private forum?

Here is the manual that explains what a moderator can do.

For anyone to read user PMs or to see who someone has rated they would have to have FTP access and manually read the files in the members directory.

All posts, even those made in private forums, count toward the total posts for a user.

Thank you everyone for responding. I guess my new question would be.. how hard is it to access the PM's and ratings. If the moderator has FTP, is it difficult? Can anyone GET FTP??

They can't get FTP access to your server unless you (that is the server owner) gives them the username and password to log in. In such a case they are able to see, download and change any and all files on your site. And figuring out the structure of the PMs is not hard, considering how transparent they are.

Reading the PMs via FTP can be very time consuming because all the files would have to be downloaded manually and then you'll have to go through them all unless you're just searching for certain keywords or pms that are from or to specific users.

Trying to figure out the ratings is possible but is SO time-consuming I doubt someone would go through the effort.

Because of the difficulties associated which each task I don't believe its something that most Admins would do, especially not most moderators. (I think its very very rare for a mod to get FTP access.)

PERFECT!! That's EXACTLY what I wanted to know. There have been "hints" as to the admin "seeing things".. or "I know your PMing back and forth".. but then again.. there are posts where people have said, "I PMed you".. so I shouldn't worry then.. thanks so much.

I am hoping to start my own UBB.. but was looking for a sponser, I guess if that happens I will be hanging out here a lot more asking stupid questions!!
