How much access does the Administrator have to a user's password? He can change or zero it but cannot see what the user entered, is that right?

That is essentially correct. Via the application, an administrator can only change a user's password but not view it. The one exception is the XML Export. If you use the XML Export utility to export your members as XML, then every user's password will be included in that XML in plain text.

OK, dumb question - version 6.5 - how does an admin change a users password? Yah know I've only been using UBB software for 5 years now

I think Brian and Jeff were confused when aswering this... their answers apply to UBB.x, not UBB.classic.

Admins can not change user passwords via the control panel, though you may view the passwords of normal users. Changing the password would require actually editing the proper member data file in the Members directory.
