Quite a few posts have discussed the idea of collecting the UBB member's information in a database, for quick off-line access and/or information mining.

I just finished a small application to do just this. The "zip" archive can be downloaded from here.

Here is what is contained in the archive:
  • a Windows EXE to read the members "cgi" files and create a comma delimited flat text file
  • an MS Access template (mdb) file for use in importing this text file
  • an MS Word document describing how to utilize the above items
  • a text file describing the UBB member file fields

In a nut shell, the steps to use this are:
  • download the member's cgi files and memberlist.cgi
  • run the EXE file to create the text file
  • import the text file into MS Access using the supplied template

I hope this helps.

comma delimited flat text file
What about existing commas that are embedded in the member data?

I did much the same thing with a rexx exec, but wound up using a $ for the delimiter instead of the commas, and importing into excel. Works for me! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Commas in the user's data will be ok. All strings are in quotes, so embedded commas are treated as data.
