my forum at http://www.markschonfeld.com/forums is just too big at this point. Is there a way that I can get rid of topics without them being retained when people search? Basically wipe them entirely from history? If not, is there a way I can start the forum over and transfer the user files so that all of my members still exist but the forum is fresh? What is the best way to fix a large scale mistake like this? I'd delete topics and categories, but it still would take people a century and a half to do a search. What do I do? Thanks.

You sure can delete topics completely... right through the control panel too, using the Prune function. Here's the section in the Admin Guide that tells you how to do it!

Have you rebuild your search index? When you do a prune from the Control Panel, you still have to rebuild the forums search index in order to clear out the pruned material.

Also, it is recommended that you always link to ultimatebb.cgi because the .php could cause some undesired behavior (unrelated to the search index issue, but still food for thought)

Do I have to use the .php version to use the accelerator function? If not, what is the .php version for?

Thanks for the reply. I do indeed know how to Prune posts through the admin panel but I didn't realize it cleared them from the search index too upon a rebuild. That's good to know. Thanks.

You should always link to the .cgi otherwise, there are some issues that do occur with with cookies, and new post indicators. The UBB will call the PHP when it needs to.
