Hi, I have read the NT permissions page and have followed all the instructions, but my ISP host is hesitant to allow read, write, execute & delete permissions on the applicable files. I am trying to find out which exact files need which exact permissions. As I understood in the instructions it says all the files in the /variable & /cgi directories once copied to the proper directories on the server should have those permissions. The server is IIS 4.0. The ISP says giving all those permissions to those files is a security hazard. Any help appreciated.

From the NT FAQ:

The webserver also controls file and directory permissions on a given website. For UBB to work properly, the UBB directory and Members Directory must have read and execute web server permissions.....and the ForumX directories must have read permissions (execute permissons are OK...but not required. In all cases, write permissions for the web server are not required if the proper IUSR_xxxx permissions above are set. Please do not set the WebServer permissions to Write).

You may want to point your host to the FAQ above.

Please do not set the WebServer permissions to Write
In the NT FAQ it says For UBB to operate properly...the IUSR_xxx user must have the ability to read/write/change/delete to the UBB directory, the ForumX (where X is the forum number) directories and the Members Directory.

Is this a seperate thing??

This question apply to NT 4.0 and IIS 4. I am still getting the BanList Permission Denied Error when I have the permission set as "Change" for the IUSR_Computername (internet Guest Internet Server Anonymous Access) account for all my ubb directories which inclues the member directory, variable_files directory, and ubb directory which is where my Banlist and forums are located. The directory which holds all these three directories has the "Change" permission apply to the IUSR_Computername (internet Guest Internet Server Anonymous) account also. What else Can I do to not get this error.
Furthermore, I have the same UBB set up on another test NT Server, with the exact setting and it work fine. I was able to post message to the Board from other computers beside my own computer. However, on the production NT server, I can only post to the Board with my computer. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

....

Move discovery...this morning, I decide to check the permission settings one more time, and I gave the IUSR_COMPUTERNAME (internet Anonymous account) the ability to (P)Change Permission for the Banlist directory and the Member Directory. It started to work again. I test it with by posting a topice using 2 different computers and not using the administrator profile, and it work. However, I went back this afternoon using those same computers to post again and not as administrator, and it stop working again. So I try posting again using the Administrator profile, and it tell me that it cannot write in Members Directory. What is going on here. I check the permission, and it is the same as this morning. This is very very frustrating to see it work this morning and not work this afternoon. What is going on here? Please help.
