#97325 - 06/10/03 07:00 PM Users becoming UNregistered ! ?

Unregistered

Hello and thank you in advance for helping me/us out! Yes we have an old version of the product but run a very active site that has no funding. Fortunately the UBB software works like a charm....
Using 5.45c (seems to be a popular one!)

Our host seems to be having some problems right now (can't get to the site to work on anything) but got a notice from a member (moderator) - she could no longer log in. Using the control panel I looked up her userame and the search returned something but without a username or date of registration. (It did include registration number though? ) No listing of number of posts but did show her has a moderator.

A few minutes later, got a "no user by this name" message when trying the same search.

I then looked at her previous posts in the board. They were all still there, showing her as an UNregistered user. (We require registration for users to read/post.)

Took a quick look through other posts and found at least 5 other members now showing now as Unregistered users.

I had time to close down the board (via Control panel) before our host stopped responding.

Egads -- what is happening?

What can I do to re-hook these folks up with their posts? (a few have over 2000 posts).

I felt as if something "bad" might happen if I left unregistered users' posts in forums that required registration. My initial plan was to close board then change all forums so that they would accept posts from unregistered users.
Then I was going to re-register the users that I knew about, using exact same username.

Will this do what I'm wanting it to do? (If it worked, then I'd need to find out who else became unregistered and go through the same steps for them.)

If there is an easier way to do this, I'll gladly scratch my plan.

Thank you,

It sounds like you've been hit by an out of space condition. The profiles that have become "unregistered" have been corrupted, and are now probably completely gone, i.e. unrecoverable.

Please speak to your host immediately and ask them if the server has experienced an out of space condition in the past few days. As soon as you know that the situation is resolved, you'll need to begin the cleanup and repair process, which we can either do here or via a ticket using the link below.

When this is taken care of, you'll probably want to look at raising the $99 US for a member area renewal so you can upgrade that antique of yours...

Charles,

I just experienced the same exact thing that OldVersionUser did. One of my members with nearly 3,000 posts has out of the blue become an "Unregistered" member.

I am running 6.5.0. Here is a link to my board~
The BARN

The user name in question is "THECHUMSTAIN". That's all I can tell ya since I'm not longer able to find this user via any searches including the control panel.

My web host has not reported any out of space issues with the server.

Got any ideas?

There's a big difference between one user going missing and all of your users starting to go missing.

Please open a support ticket, and please do refrain from posting an unrelated issue in an unrelated topic... this is the 5-series forum, after all.

Opps! Sorry about that Charles!

I did a search on "Unregistered Users" and replied to the first thread that I came across that was relavent.

I'll repost in the correct forum.

P.S It's not "all" of my members, it's just one.

Again...sorry about that.
