I'm having the same problems I've seen below ... trying to install the free version, everything works till I come to the username/pass form, and get the same "user unknown" error. The instructions are vague on this point--what is my "default" password? the one for my ISP?

I tried going with the absolute paths already filled in, then what they were according to my FTP client, then variations thereof . . . triple-checked the CHMODs . . . no luck!!!

If you can make it work, please do so! I'll email you my ISP password if you need it . .. thanks in advance!

PS the instructions should be a bit clearer on that one point, though the rest were very good

Solved it! Had to look down a few posts.

The solution is to enter their default password (how is one supposed to know it???!!!)

Username: Admin5
Password: 4tugboat

I got an error for one of the absolute paths after that but that was easy to fix.

Someone should put that in the instructions . . .

Step 12 of the instructions has the default username and password, though it is not very prominent.

you can change the pw by clicking the profile link at the top right corner of your ubb board...
