250-yard hard-rubber and solid nickel (German) silver reel is marked \"Sold by E. vom Hofe & Co., NY\" and was likely made by the Montague Rod & Reel Company. Edward vom Hofe reels are of the highest quality and those marked as sold by EVH aren\'t far behind.This early and high-grade reel\'s features include a locking handle nut, shouldered pillars, fancy knurling on several parts and note the click switch which has 7 steps ...so much more elegant than the standard fare. The diameter is 3.25\" and the spool is just a tad over 2\" wide. The head-plate is marked \"Montauk\" ...a town on the south shore of Long Island, NY, long known for its superb big game fishing.The reel is running well with a strong click and the free spool lever engages and disengages the free spool just as it should. The foot is full length and while the screws look pretty good overall, most show some use. The hard rubber is devoid of cracks. The reel has developed a beautiful bronze patina that nickel silver acquires if left alone for a very, very long time. A well made reel in excellent condition.
