100 Yr Old Lionel Std Gauge #1912 Locomotive
Price: US $1476.00
This is a very early Lionel, New York, New Haven & Hartford standard gauge electric locomotive. It is olive green with fancy gold script and gold hand rails. It runs forward and does have some gear \"whizzing\" when starting up. Once it gets going, it\'s ok. I think that it is caused by the large gear on the drive wheel being a little loose. I don\'t want to try to remove the wheel to fix it for fear of breaking the wheel. It probably runs in reverse also, but I can\'t get the switch lever to go in to reverse and again I don\'t want to force it. It is a very early type reversing switch that does not have those four little spring loaded buttons that slide over very easily. This one is very tight and I don\'t want to take a chance of it breaking and since it runs forward I chose to leave it at that. It has an auxiliary lighting post on the back, top, to wire car lights to. One of the large bells is a reproduction, the other is original. The headlight works. The number 1912 is visible on one side only and has worn off the other side. The red paint you see on those ventilator flaps and on the screens is factory original, not something I painted on. The doors have brass door knobs and they slide open and closed. One of the photos shows a door in the open position. This loco has square corners like a box and is much more realistic than the later round bodied #42 that superseded it. It is equipped with the smooth hook couplers with the longer tongue, not the short ones. These engines are not easy to find and don\'t show up too often even at train shows, a truly rare piece.
