Price: GB $86.00

A wonderful early 17th century silverpiece of eightor 8Reales cob coin salvaged from the famous Rill Cove shipwreck.

The infamous Lizard silver wreckwas found in Kynance, Cornwall. It is believed that the unidentified ship sank sometime around 1618 carrying large quantities of silver bars and Spanish coins. The coins mostly originate from Peru and Mexico and all are from the reigns of King Philip II and Philip II of Spain, thus representing the earlier coins minted bythe Spanish in the New World. Coins from this wreck are often fairly deteriorated due to the conditions of the sea in this area and the constantly shifting sand banks that cover the wreck.

The wreck was discovered in 1973when Ken Simpson and Mike Hall were diving on the wrecked trawler ‘Kerris Reed’ and spotted some iron guns beneath the wreckage.
