1803 STAMPLESS LETTER w BOSTON POSTMARK to AUGUSTUS CHASE - SCHOONER HARRIOT
Price: US $13.00
This antique stampless folded letter dated September 27, 1803 is addressed to \"Mr. Augustus Chase Freetown\" and is signed \"John Baker Jr.\" The letter has a 1 1/8\" red circular postmark \"BOSTON MS SEP 26.\" The letter is written on a sheet of hand laid paper , each page measures 8 x 12 1/2 inches. Augustus Chase was one of the owners of the Schooner Harriot, a ship of 106 tons built in 1801. John Baker was the Master. In this letter Baker is writing Chase to let him know where the ship is and how many fish he caught and when the fish will be ready. This is an interesting letter as much of it is written phonetically. This letter also has an itemized list for supplies purchased for the Cod fishing voyage. There is a 1 x 4 inch piece of paper missing from the border and there are some tears on the folds but overall this rare 213 year old letter is in good condition! !
