This is an ORIGINAL 1862 MANSFIELD CIVIL WAR OFFICER\'S CAVALRY SWORD. Sword is from about a 70 year old collection. Original blade is marked Mansfield G G S 1862 and is in great condition. There is a couple of rust spots, but overall very nice. Tip is nice. There is a slight bow in the blade (see picture). Blade has been kept oiled. Handle is nice and complete, everything is tight, brass has very nice original patina. There looks to be an original initial J.M. at the top of the pommel. On the cross guard there is some numbers, ??? then 557. Blade fits scabbard very nicely. There is a couple of dings in the scabbard, but everything is complete with original patina. Overall length of sword is 42 inches (pommel end to scabbard tip) Blade measures 34 3/4 inches. Handle overall measures 6 inches long. Any questions? Need more pictures? Just ask.
