Very rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1870\'s Pair of Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Hide Moccasins with paint decorated parfleche soles.
This outstanding Pair of 19th century Sioux Moccasins each measure approx. 9 1/2\" long at their stiffened parfleche sole. A very wonderful and unique element of these early Sioux Moccasins is the fact that the inner surface of the parfleche soles are beautifully paint decorated (see the scans below). The decoration is exceptionally beautiful and executed using a multitude of colors against a white ground with central crosses on the vamps using dark blue, red white-heart and white color trade beads. These wonderful Sioux Indian Moccasins are sinew sewn and the uppers are near fully beaded. They feature simple contiguous cuffs and sinew sewn tongues.

This very rare and very beautiful, Pair of ca1870\'s Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Moccasins are in very good condition. The hide elements are generally well preserved however there are tears to the hide on one side of each Moccasin that extends from the base of the tongue to the parfleche sole. The left hand Moccasin lacks the tongue and the tongue of the right Moccasin is partially detached. There is only very minimal loss to the beadwork on the left hand Moccasin only with 3 or four small rows lost on the stripe that encircles the heel. The soles have some surface wear and the paint decoration to the interior surface of the soles is very well preserved. All elements of the Moccasins are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - they are 100% original and 100% beautiful.
