Very rare and original 1890’s Pre-Prohibition Tin Lithographed, Brewery / Beer Advertising Serving Tray from National Brewery Company of Saint Louis, Missouri with a fantastic view of the Brewery. This wonderful, turn of the 20th century Beer Tray measures 13 5/8\" by 10 ¼” and was manufactured by the Standard Advertising Company of Coshocton, Ohio.
The central image on this outstanding Beer Tray presents a wonderful view of the expansive Brewery of the National Brewery Co. with horse drawn Beer Wagons coming and going from the impressive brick structure. At the upper left hand corner is the patriotic motif Trademark of the N.B.C. with American Flag, Liberty Pole and Cap, grains and hops. At the right hand side of the Tray is an image of a tall neck bottle of the Brewery’s signature “White Seal” Beer. Text above the view of the Brewery reads “National Brewery Co. / St. Louis, Mo.” and text below the view reads “Griesedieck Bros. Proprietors / Brewers of Fine Beers Exclusively”.
Around the raised rim of the Tray are the names of the various Brands of Beer produced at the Brewery including “Muenchener”; “Pilsner”; “White Seal”; “National Export”; “Standard”; and “Extra Pale”. The Chromolithography is of the VERY highest quality and the Tray carries the mark of the manufacturer - Standard Advertising of Coshocton, Ohio. Although the Tray is not dated we know that the National Brewery Co. existed under that name from 1888 till 1906 and that the Standard Advertising Company existed from 1888 to 1901. The style and design of the Tray lead us to date it to the period 1895 to 1901 at the latest.
This beautiful 1890’s National Brewery Company, Advertising Beer Tray is not a reproduction, reissue or restrike but is an original turn of the 20th century Serving Tray manufactured by Standard Advertising Co. for the National Brewery Company of St. Louis, Missouri in the 1890’s.
This very rare and highly desirable, Tin Lithograph Brewery / Beer Advertising Tray is in very good condition - the lithography is bright and beautiful, rich and warm. There are surface nicks and a small area of surface wear near the center of the Image area (mostly affecting the right hand side of the front of the Brewery Building). Otherwise there are small and scattered surface blemishes as can be seen in the scans below. The surface of the tray is bright and the lithography stable and sound with no flaking or crazing. The border and the raised rim have some small surface blemishes, small scratches and tiny spots of surface loss but overall the tray displays very nicely. We have included a number of scans of this very rare Pre-Prohibition Beer Tray which give a good indication of the condition and content - please examine the images below, ask any questions you wish and offer accordingly. The back side has some wear as can be seen in the scans below.
