Here\'s a beautiful leather-clad 4 x 5 cycle camera sold by Iver Johnson Sporting Goods in Boston ca. 1900-05. Small enough to fit into a jacket pocket for an afternoon bike ride through the city or countryside, cycle cameras were the rage at the turn of the last century, and most of them -- including this one -- could be folded up in a matter of seconds and weren\'t much larger than one of their plate holders.
Condition is excellent throughout, with minimal leather wear evident on the exterior and polished mahogany surfaces that are almost like new. The shutter is complete and working, and the ground glass focusing plate is in excellent condition. Hood opens up quickly and does an excellent job keeping light off the ground glass back. Doors open and close as they should, and the plate holder slips easily into the back. Bellows appear to be light tight, and they fold up neatly into the camera body, with no misfolds. Viewfinder is in excellent condition, too. There are two small leather overlays on the door buttons, but the black leather covering is otherwise pristine, with no flaking or re-coloring. Iver Johnson decal is original and nearly perfect, with vibrant colors.
Overall, a very nice example of a hard-to-find early camera. When folded up, the camera measures approximately 6\" x 5\" x 2\".Shipping weight will be about 4 lb.
