Make sure to check out all of my sales after you've looked at this one. I'm listing another eclectic selection of museum quality antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everyone. Here's a Talk-O-Phone Clarke disc phonograph, manufactured in 1904 by the Talk-O-Phone Company of Toledo, Ohio -- a small, scrappy concern that spent the lion's share of its time embroiled in patent infringement litigation with industry giants Columbia and Victor. One of Talk-O-Phone's two flagship phonographs (the other was the Sousa), this Clarke is original throughout, it's in good working order, and it will be ready to play and enjoy as soon as it arrives. As you can see in the pictures, the phonograph is beautiful. Original horn paint, original long-throat Talk-O-Phone reproducer, original 2-part Talk-O-Phone horn elbow, original Talk-O-Phone support arm, original Talk-O-Phone traveling arm, Original Talk-O-Phone combination speed control/brake mechanism, original turntable felt, original motor, original gear train and governor, original crank, original brake, original cabinet finish, original original cabinet decal, Etc. The mechanism and three-spring motor are in near mint condition, as you can see. The gearing is pristine, with very little wear evident. There's some oxidation on the nickel-plated parts, but the phonograph is overall a museum quality example of a very hard to find early disc machine. The cabinet decal -- large and whimsical and full of color -- is among the most prized of all disc phonograph decals. The cabinet is excellent, with an original finish that exhibits only minimal wear and no chips, no dents, no dings, no missing chunks of wood. All four green buffers are still present under the motorboard. The beautiful carved embellishments are in excellent condition, with no damage. No missing trim on top or bottom. Clean inside. The baseboard is excellent, with no warp or wood rot. There's a super fine hairline on the cabinet's sides that runs parallel to the grain; it's the artifact of an old repair, and it's essentially invisible. Plays practically all early 7", 10" and 12" records -- Victor, Columbia, you name the brand. Reproducer is loud, crisp and clear. Motor is strong. Easily makes it through one or more records without the need for re-winding.This is a large and fairly heavy phonograph. Base measures approximately 15" x 14" x 10". Horn is approximately 26" long with an 18" diameter bell. The phonograph and small parts will be shipped in one package. The horn will be shipped in another package.I'll include with the phonograph several early, acoustically-recorded records, and if you get tired of listening to them, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you're not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don't worry. I'll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you'll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together.
That's about it. I will carefully prepeverything for shipping andpack everything carefully and properly. Overseas buyers, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote. As noted above, the phonograph is large. Accordingly, it cannot be shipped to all countries, so please have me confirm my ability to ship it you before you place a offer. sale participants with no prior response history, or with hidden response, should contact me before placing a offer. There's an old brazed repair on the mounting flange of the support arm, where it bolts onto the cabinet. It's clean, it's tight, it's secure and it's easy to overlook. In fact I'd never noticed it myself until last night, when I was placing the machine up on a shelf for safe storage. But I did notice it, so I want to mention it.
