Make sure to check out all of my sales after you\'ve looked at this one. I\'m listing an eclectic selection of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect that there will be something of interest to just about everybody.
Here\'s a 100% original 1906 Zon-O-Phone Grand Opera disc phonograph, the largest and most lavishly acquitted phonograph manufactured by the Universal Talking Machine Company. There are no restored or replica parts anywhere on the machine. With a hand-painted 24\" diameter morning glory horn, lathe-turned cabinet corner pillars, and a triple spring motor capable of playing as many as five records with a single winding, the Grand Opera was Zon-O-Phone\'s flagship machine, competing for top dog status in the rarefied upper echelon of the disc phonograph market.
As you can see, the phonograph is gorgeous. Blue was the most uncommon horn color for the rear-mount Grand Opera, and of the few blue-horned GO\'s that survive, I doubt that many if any are in better condition than this example. The iridescent paint is original (both inside and out) and the horn exhibits no significant dents, corrosion or damage, just scattered dings, minor marks and benign deterioration consistent with age and authenticity. Horn elbow is original and in excellent condition, with no dents or rust. The oak cabinet retains its original finish and is in excellent condition, with no damage to any of the corners and original cabinet decals intact on both the front and the back. All of the small hardware is original, and all of it is correct. The brake is original and working properly. The original Zon-O-Phone reproducer is in great shape and still sounds great, too. The three spring motor, reproducer assembly, and gear train are original and working great. The turntable felt is original, with normal fading and needle marks, but no moth damage. The crank is original and correct. A portion of the original paper license remains affixed to the underside of the base, and the shadow of the long gone celluloid dealer\'s tag can be seen on the upper tier of the base molding in front. The motor, governor and gear train are original and in excellent condition. The phonograph plays well and has no trouble making it through records without needing to be rewound. The original Zon-O-Phone reproducer is in excellent condition, and records played on this machine sound great.
Plays practically all 78 RPM records -- Victor, Columbia, Zonophone, you name the brand.
I\'ll include with the phonograph a couple of early, acoustically recorded records, and if you get tired of listening to them, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you\'re not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don\'t worry. I\'ll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you\'ll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together. I\'ve been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you\'ll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it\'s been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn\'t know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you\'ll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won\'t be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your \"bargain\" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you\'ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.That\'s about it. I will carefully prepeverything for shipping andpack everything carefully and properly. Due to the size of the horn, the phonograph can be shipped only to addresses in the United States and Canada. sale participants with no prior response history should also contact me before placing a offer. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
