Excellenthistorical Ouray, Colorado patented Miners candlestick with folding hook, Pat. # 992,950, May 25, 1909, by Charles Ramstead and Peter Johnson. This stick is in excellent unused condition, no rust or wear, a good mechanical folding hook that locks in upright position and releases when spike is spread. This is the only San JuanMining district patented candlestick that is known to have been made, there were a couple of other patents issued there, but no examples have been found. Ouray was the home to the richest gold mine in the San Juans, Thomas Walsh's amazingCamp Bird. One of the most beautiful earlymining camps in all of Colorado, it still holds that distinction today. Don't miss this rare candlestick. There are none better than this example.
Patent drawings are from the Wendell E. Wilson book, "Miners' Candlestick Patents", and theJack Ramsdelland Norman Wagner book, "Patents, Miners candlesticks", both out of print.
